As someone who is always searching for great Japanese food, from hole-in-the-wall spots to Michelin counters, after visiting Shiki tonight it’s clear why the walls are lined with autographs from legendary Seattle athletes and Japanese icons like Ichiro.

We ordered 18 pieces of nigiri (really good value) and each piece was generous in size with fresh fish and a good amount of wasabi. Thankfully I love wasabi. I also ordered the oden because I was reminiscing about my time in Kyoto, and it absolutely took me back! Perfect dish during the winter weather. If you know Japan, this place will resonate with you.

Chef Ken is an authentic and talented sushi chef who has truly transported a piece of Japan to Seattle. The service was friendly, attentive, and warm. It is an unassuming spot and a neighborhood gem.

Truly grateful to have this place in my community!! Arigatou Team Shiki, we will be back !!

This is my third time visiting Shiki, and I have to say I was very disappointed tonight.
My first visit was fine. The second time, the sashimi quality was impressive — I even tried the Japanese sea urchin and it was great.
But tonight, we found something dirty and sticky on the toro sushi. When we asked the waiter to check, he insisted it was wasabi — but clearly, it was not. It looked dark and muddy, definitely nothing like wasabi. Then the owner said it was onion, which it obviously wasn’t — onion isn’t muddy or sticky. In the end, no one could tell us what it actually was.
Instead of sincerely apologizing or checking it carefully, they kept arguing that it wasn’t something dirty and that the fish was fresh. We understand they may buy fresh fish daily, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for something unclean to be on it. The uni I had tonight was also bitter, and to make things worse, we even found a piece of fur on the chicken.
Really disappointed with how irresponsibly they handled everything. I’ll never come back again.

The sushi was very fresh. The tempura was very good – thinly battered and super crispy. The chicken katsu and its sauce were very good.
The back cod we had that day was unfortunately not good – it tasted bitter and had some wierd fishiness. We complained and got another one that tasted the same. Eventually they took this dish off the check which we appreciated.
The service was good except for when we asked for water twice and eventually just didn’t get the water refilled.

Definitely a local gem! Great selection of sushi and sake 🙂

Came in for a regular dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Don’t let the “okay” safety inspection scare you away! While the atmosphere isn’t comparable to fine dining and they had some issues while we were dining, it only affected one table.

For a simple dinner it’s about ~50 per person. Give the seasonal specials a try, Zuke was my favorite 🙂 sushi and chirashi are pretty fresh and portions are really good. Desserts can be a hit or miss, personally the flan wasn’t my favorite (especially the fig :s) but not the worst.

Unfortunately, the sashimi wasn’t fresh at all. The two pieces of sea urchin we ordered looked and tasted past their prime, which was really disappointing. The other dishes we had didn’t meet our expectations as well. As someone who has been to Japan a couple times, though I didn’t expect the food to be exact the same quality, at least they shouldn’t be far below average. The service was poor as well. We waited for 10 minutes to get our waters served.
I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’d like to have some fresh, decent, and somewhat authentic Japanese food.

I’ve been looking for authentic sushi ever since my trip to Japan. This spot satisfied that craving!

If you’re looking for fair prices, authentic food and incredible service then look no further.

Rice to fish ratios were awesome. Fish was fresh and melted in our mouth. The server was incredibly friendly and I loved the authentic family style Japanese restaurant vibe.

We are so glad we found this local family owned spot!

We ordered a sashimi dinner & pork katsu entree. They both came with a miso soup. The portions were huge compared to other places we’ve been to, we were so full when we left and glad we parked up the hill (we were watching sunset at Kerry Park before dinner). The katsu was fried perfectly and maintained its juiciness, highly recommend! The omakase sashimi dinner had an assortment of fresh fish and we loved all of it especially the marinated tuna with the yuzu pepper on top – such a bright note on top of the marinate, delicious!

We dined in right before last seating/closing time so we were seated right away and the service was great! The owners were welcoming and never rushed us to finish our food. The whole atmosphere and inner decor reminds me of the izayaka restaurants in Japan! Definitely a neighborhood gem, will be back!

Great food and good value! So excited to have found this gem which serves authentic Japanese cuisine with a personal touch! The staff were incredibly attentive and even gave me a complimentary wakame tofu when they noticed I had to wait awhile for my food as the lone sushi chef made the various orders. Will definitely be back!

So glad I finally got to check out this place which has been in my to-go list for years! Went there on a weekday after work, the restaurant has a very quiet, relaxing, and soothing vibe. We ordered the Sashimi dinner, hamachi kama, and Sukiyaki. All were super delicious, fresh, and full of umami. We talked to the owner & chef Ken, he was really friendly and it was wonderful to chat with him!

Shiki is a small Japanese restaurant at the foot of Queen Anne. They offer a variety of Japanese dishes made with local ingredients.



Reservations are most likely required for dining here. The restaurant was small and this place is quite popular. We were seated almost immediately upon arriving on our reserved time. The staff were very friendly and their service was good.



I got the Chicken Katsu combo and while it came out a bit cold, they reheated it for me. Even then, I thought that it was okay. The California roll that came with it was good though. My partner did say that their Eel and Spicy Tuna Sushi were great, though!

I also ordered Karaage for appetizers but they forgot to serve it. They apologized for it and made sure to remove it from our bill.



I personally haven’t checked, but I think they have a restroom inside the restaurant. They have dedicated parking on the other end of the block (corner of W Roy St & 1st Ave W).



Overall, I think that it’s a bit pricey for the taste but I think it’s a good place and I’m glad to have tried it out. I would suggest that if you want to try out this place, consider focusing on the sushi menu.
