I love Shige Sushi in Sonoma! I live in Napa and go to Sonoma regularly for appointments and having lunch at Shige is always a treat.

The most beautifully presented and tasty agedashi tofu I have ever had! The tempura udon was very tasty with an excellent dashi but would have been nicer with more than one tempura prawn. The restaurant smelled a little too fishy as if it hadn’t had a deep clean lately. However the service was so beautiful, gracious and efficient and the room had such gentle acoustics that we both had a lovely lunch.

I had high hopes because I read that the chef owner was Japanese and saw promising photos. The atmosphere was authentic. Server was pleasant and elegantly handled lunch service alone. I decided not to order sushi because the chef seemed to have a day off. Unfortunately, the pork katsu was unbelievably overcooked to jerky dry. They didn’t have shredded cabbage or Japanese mustard, a standard condiment for tonkatsu. Saving grace was that the rice was nicely cooked. King Kong Bowl was good except for the imitation crab. Water had an off taste. Overall an average Japanese-American restaurant.

We had a wonderful dining experience there last night! Service, food and atmosphere were on point! We were celebrating a belated birthday and they surprised us with strawberry emoji and whipped cream for the birthday girl. Overall wonderful experience ✨

A charming sushi restaurant with excellent sashimi and rolls.

I came here on a Thursday night, looking for a quick bite with a couple friends. Shige showed up as a good option and I wasn’t disappointed. We had the large plate of sashimi which included the chefs special fish for the day along with some rolls including the chefs surprise. Everything was excellent, and the short sake list had some fabulous options.

When in Sonoma looking for a low key, but very good sushi restaurant, I will eat here every time.

I love eating at Shige, but my only complaint is that I wish the tempura included kabocha squash and Japanese sweet potato. These are the very best vegetables to use in tempura and Shige has neither one. They did bell peppers, which is very weird and doesn’t taste good.

Love this place. was just in town for a long weekend but read that this was one of the best sushi places and no lie, it is! small place and we got a table right away I think only because of the holiday weekend. service was great. very small business, local feel. seem to have some regulars. sashimi was super fresh and reasonably priced for what you get. wish I lived closer!

I’m pleased to say, I don’t have to go into the City to experience an authentic taste of Japan. I had the Bento box lunch plate, with Karaage Chicken, not teriyaki!
I wanted to try something new. Karaage is something I have never had before. The portion was generous and the chicken was juicy and tender with a spice and flavor that to me was unique.
The description on the menu said “spicy” but it’s not hot, more of a gentle tangy taste. But not sweet! Very flavorful with a delicious dipping sauce on the side.

Excellent service and a pleasant atmosphere. A nice selection of wines, beers and sake.

I forgot to order Miso soup and California roll. I liked the house made cheese cake. Yet, I was disappointed that it wasn’t made with Anko or green tea ice cream or maybe even Japanese persimmon. Next time I visit I will try the beef Teriyaki and maybe some Udon.

Great nigiri, udon, and katsu.
Freshly prepared fish. Udon noodles had a chewy texture. Katsu was very criply done. I was surprised by the quality of their food,

What a nice little surprise on our trip to sonoma to stumble upon this gem of a restaurant! The fish is fresh and high quality, the tempura and chicken udon were crispy and my kids gobbled it up. My sukiyaki hit the spot on a chilly evening. My husband’s nigiri omakase was fresh and delicious. The entire family had a great meal, we definitely plan to come again!
