Sherkaan is such a fun surprise right off Broadway in New Haven, tucked behind the Apple Store near the Yale Bookstore. The space feels young and energetic, more Indian street food hangout than formal dining, which fits their whole “modern Indian” vibe perfectly.

We ordered a spread and basically loved every category. The pani puri were crisp and bright, with that perfect hit of spicy mint water that wakes up your palate, and the pav bhaji was rich, buttery comfort with soft toasted buns that the kids kept reaching for. The butter chicken was exactly what you want it to be, silky and deeply flavored without feeling heavy, and the dum biryani had beautifully fragrant rice and tender pieces of chicken, the kind of dish you keep going back to for “just one more bite.”

The kale Caesar with salmon was a nice surprise, a smart, Indian-leaning twist with crispy chickpeas and spices that made it way more interesting than a standard salad. The paneer dish was creamy and satisfying, and the lamb dosa was one of my favorites, with that thin crisp exterior and all the flavor tucked inside. We finished things off with a soothing chai and a thick, fruity mango lassi, which was the perfect way to cool everything down and end the meal. Overall, Sherkaan nails that mix of playful street food and serious flavor, and it is absolutely worth a visit if you are anywhere near Yale.

Ambience of this place is fantastic, great decor, hangings and wall paintings. Beverage menu is a highlight and refreshing. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the surroundings. Few of the dishes lacked authentic Indian punch. Our butter chicken was under whelming and flavorless. Shrimp we tried is delicious. There are few hits and more misses.

If you are looking for a stylish spot for drinks and gags give a shot but the kitchen needs to dial up a bit and be more consistent.

I visited this place on a Friday, I was seated quickly without prior reservations. The service was pretty good. Ordered Badaam milk drink, it was mild with a hint of saffron and a bit sweet, covered in dry rose patels made it a bit hard to drink, but overall tasted good. The food came quickly and in huge portions (I’m used to the smaller European portions). I got chicken curry and the biryani. Both were well cooked and tasteful. Not as spicy as authentic Indian cuisine, which I understand they serve white Anglo-Saxons in New Haven (the majority of the customers are white people) but it would be nice to include an option for customers chosing the spice level. Overall it was a good experience, the food quality was pretty high, but among all the Indian food I had, both in India and London, I’d say this was not the best. Having said that, if I was in the area and crave Indian I’d give Sherkaan a visit.

We went to dine in at this restaurant late afternoon on a Sunday. It was packed but we were able to get a table outside. The server is very friendly and was able to explain the menu well. we got Samosa chaat that was filling (taste could’ve been ), veg Hakka noodles which were good, but definitely not typical street style noodles, Pav Bhaji which was very tasty. We also got plain rice that was very flavorful. Definitely recommend!

Absolutely loved the place. Even though we had to wait an hour to get seated it was definitely worth the wait. The place is bustling with Yale crowd and there is never a dull moment. We enjoyed the biryani and wings we ordered and our server was extremely friendly. I would definitely come back for more.

This is a fresh spot that serves indian fusion dishes. It’s a little hidden, you need to go down a little alleyway near the Yale bookstore to see it. I got the Chicken Frankie roll to go, so I can’t comment on the dine in experience. It was good, but quite underwhelming, both in size, and in taste. There was very little chicken, and it was probably half the mass of a typical burrito. They also took like 20 minutes to get the order out. Will definitely be back to try the dine-in experience.

From the front desk to dessert the staff are fantastic, and the food is a wonderful experience. If you’re fortunate, you’ll have Julia as your server. Julia is absolutely amazing, so kind and so attentive. She and their entire team ensured my mother had a wonderful birthday! Thank you so much guys! I’ll be back 🙂

Sherkaan is so good so I’m upset that I have to write this review but it’s unacceptable :/ I ordered butter chicken and naan Saturday morning and unfortunately my naan was burnt. And the chicken was wayy too soft. I shred a chunk to see and alot of pieces had pink inside! I could’ve gotten sick. PLEASE make sure you’re cooking the chicken thoroughly!! I was so disappointed !

Stumbled upon this place while searching for desi food near Yale. Tried the chaat dog, masala dosa, dahi puri and cabbage salad. Everything was flavorful, but not packed with masalas. The plating, ambiance, service, and decor were exceptional. I tried all vegetarian items since the food is not halal. I definitely recommend this restaurant to people looking for American Indian fusion food with a fun vibe.

This place is located right in the heart of Yale University. It is clean, with a nice atmosphere and you can pick to sit inside or outside. The food was very good and the portions were pretty good and filling. We ended up taking half of it home. Their samosas were amazing by the way. Truly a lovely place.
