If it’s a dive bar you want, this is the place… Complete with dirty fingers in the beer glasses without even requesting it! The highlight is truly the attached Asian restaurant. Gets the job done as a watering hole. The restaurant is a huge bonus. Huge negative is that smoking is allowed and there’s pretty much smoke and ashes everywhere.

It’s your true locals spot here in Afton. Teresa is an awesome local bartender. The glasses are cold and they sell beer at a great, locals cheap price. It’s a fun place to just go in and be yourself. A true, classy dive bar.

This review is very late but it is well deserved. I was in Utah for work back in February, 2020. We flew in early to explore and we just got on the highway and drove. We ended up in Afton, WY after dark. The wife and I were turning around to head back, saw SHELLY’S COWBOY BAR and said, “ we need to stop in there to have one drink, so we can say we were here!”. We ended up staying for hours! We made some great new friends and memories that will never be forgotten. Needless to say, it’s on my bucket list anytime I can get back up there. Thank you for being open on that cold winter night and serving some Southern Rednecks a great time!

Just the good, old school, rustic, smoky bar that hosts the local regulars conversing about the local weather, news, and more specifically, ever entertaining rumors of great fortune, horrific tragedy, and comical happenstances affecting the tribe.
If you’re a fan of traditional socializing in the raw, face to face, format. Real people building relationships with real people is rich in the air.
The service is warm and the atmosphere is light and welcoming if you’re looking for a fitting Wyoming bar to kick back and enjoy a cold one in some beautiful country!!

As soon as you enter the bar it feels like the time stoped here a few decades ago, when everything was easygoing and all the people were still living peacefully together. I had one of the best evenings here that I had in a long long time. We had the best bartender (Theresa) and it felt like back home.
If I would live here they would have to drag me out there by my boots every single evening.
I will be back,
Jan

Friendly fast waitress.
Good selection of domestic beers and mixed drinks.
Always seems to be a few locals in the bar, all of whom were friendly to us when we stopped. Pool table in the back.

The food looked as good as bar food always looks, but we didn’t get anything.

We’d have probably stayed longer, but they allow smoking in the bar, which makes me congested and sneezy. I’m not complaining and think every business should choose the best for their business…but I had to leave after a couple beers because of the smoke. This ISN’T a complaint… it’s just FYI.

Great place to drop in and enjoy a cold beverage. Make sure to check out the brands on the walls from some of the local ranchers.

I can appreciate a local bar, but we walked in and felt uncomfortable and worse not welcome. I’m sure they get tourists that torture them with expectations and demands all year long, but I specifically came in to have a locals experience because we are looking to move to Wyoming with Afton being on our list. The experience was so unnerving the city was quickly removed from our list. Ate at restaurant next door which is part of the bar and the experience did not improve. Food was not good. Just not as friendly or engaging as every other city we visited out here. I hope this helps anyone else considering stopping in.

Disappointed after this last visit. We come in here at least once a week to have beers and play pool, and it’s always been pretty good. Decided to skip the beers tonight, and after 30 minutes and dropping about $5 or so into the pool table we were asked to leave because we hadn’t bought any drinks yet.

My advice is head over to Colters, I’ve never had any problems there. Much nicer facility, plus they have three tables so you’re never stuck waiting to play. That’s what I’ll be doing in the future.
