I’ll start by saying Youngstown finally has a Barbecue joint! I moved here from Texas and this is the first time I’ve tasted anything that resembled barbecue within 500 miles. I knew within the first 3 seconds opening the front door that I was in the right place. It smells amazing, and the taste matches… great work guys! We tried Brisket, Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs and all the sides – All Excellent. If you like real barbecue that is smoked with a homemade dry rub with a side of sauce – Shelby’s won’t disappoint. We are not talking about baked meat, smothered in some store bought high fructose sauce – these are legit smoked to perfection meats. It’s a family run operation, lean and mean menu with all the flavor you ever wanted. I’m impressed and have been back twice already. I’m obviously going to be back, many more times!

I try to eat here once if not twice a month. Phenomenal BBQ! Always full of flavor and fall off the bone tender. The brisket is perfectly cooked and the ribs and wings are some of the best I have ever ate. I’m not usually a pulled pork fan but i make an exception for his!
It’s usually just one guy working but it’s worth any “delay” or wait….trust me, you won’t be disappointed!!!

I went there on Sunday April 7 around 1pm i was the only customer. I ordered the 3 meat sampler with sides of mac and cheese and also coleslaw. Everything was fantastic!!! Especially the brisket. Very large portions. I had enough for lunch the next day ribs and pulled pork were equally delicious as well. I’ve eaten bbq all over the country. Texas, South Carolina. St. Louis, Mississippi and a few other states. Shelby’s is right there with some of the best.

Had the brisket sandwich and it was excellent! Loved the horseradish sauce. Also tried the ribs, which were very good. There is limited seating on site, although everything is served in to-go containers. I will definitely be back.

I ordered the smoked brisket, it was a very generous portion, i split it with my co-worker it was so big, however, it was full of fat! and the horseraddish sauce was too potent to overcome, kind of a let down after reading all the other reviews and getting excited to try it! i gave 2 stars because my coworker ordered ribs and said they were very good! However, she did say she wouldnt order again its just too much! i know this is the first 2 star review on here but iam just expressing my opinion.

I was also at the restaurant on Sunday when the person claimed it was dirty and the plants looked awful. I don’t know of many people who judges a restaurant on their plants but someone felt the need to. I walked in and was greeted very politely like normal and like usual it was clean but while I was waiting a gentleman walked in with muddy boots and the floor got a bit dusty. Then I got my drink and there was no cigarette ashes but possibly maybe it was just some dust from the shelving. Considering you are not allowed to smoke anymore in restaurant I don’t know how someone would assume again assume that a restaurant would give a drink with ashes on it. I have been there many times and felt the customer service was great and the food is amazing. I have gone to sit down restaurants and waited 20 minutes for drink does that mean they should not pass inspection. You go to Shelby’s BBQ and you get friendly service and great food but if plants are how we should judge a restaurant then maybe you should stay home because that is a poor reason to give a bad review especially after reading other reviews I don’t know how one person can judge some place on plants and dust on a floor. I will continue to go there for the food. Great job you guys. Excellent food.

Shelby’s just opened in the same lot as Boardman Lanes. I’ve eaten there twice now and loved the food both times.
Both the pulled pork and the brisket are fantastic. Each is smoked with a variety of woods to that perfect point, where the meat is super tender yet still holds it’s integrity. The combination of woods results in a great smoke without being overpowering. The sauce compliments and accentuates the meat as well – which is exactly what bbq should be.
Sides are really good as well. The slaw is vinegar based which is fresh and crisp, beans are nicely al dente and definately fresh cooked with their own tang, and the mac n cheese is very cheesy and elevated with the addition of white wine.
Definitely check out Shelby’s, it’s far better than the few other pseudo bbq places in this area, easy to get to, priced right, and great food.

Ehh. The lady working was nice. The meat was good and cooked well, and the BBQ sauce was okay, but the dry rub ruined it. Had a nasty taste to it. Definitely not worth $40. Save your money and go to Barry Dyngles. The only thing I finish all of was the beans. Oh and the Mac and cheese was gross with hard dried out noodles. By far the worst BBQ I’ve ever had.
