I have heard great things about Shelby Cafe, but today I decided to stop by and see what all the fuss was about. We’ll I was quickly seated at 12:43:28 and a waitress came to my table and said what do you want to drink…(Not hello) so I said half sweet and half unsweet. Then she took my order which I ordered the Stew Beef, potatoes and 2 sides. She brought my plate and set it down…(Never said enjoy) so I thought wow what a rude waitress. However I left her a good tip just to be a nice person, but she certainly did not deserve 1cent. Honey you gotta be nice! Not good to customers is the wrong place to be.

I normally don’t bother writing reviews at all but after hearing that someone decided to say a bunch of lies on here about my favorite waitress i decided to say something. I’ve been to the cafe multiple times and every single time I’ve never had a negative experience except for when the female manager had family drama going on at work. Like girl leave that at home no one cares about your relationship problems we’re just trying to eat. Then there’s the people in the kitchen yelling at the waitresses when no bosses are around. Chill out yall ain’t that important or that special. Out of all the places I’ve been to this is the only one where I’ve noticed that the waitresses don’t get treated like people. With how long I see them on their feet I bet they don’t even get a break which is absolutely wrong. Furthermore to the woman named Katherine who wrote a nasty review. If you’re gonna write a review be honest. Don’t lie about good people because you’re a nasty person with not a single drop of joy in your life. Amy H A is the most kind, respectful, polite and wonderful waitress I’ve ever had so lying about a good person like her just shows that you have no morals and are just pathetic. As for whoever is in charge of this establishment take care of your people better.

I had breakfast at Shelby Cafe today and I will definitely be back. Good food, great service and better prices. Not much more you can ask for!

We had such a great lunch! The bacon burger was cooked to perfection and FILLED with freshly cooked bacon—Red Robin, Five Guys, take note.
The blueberry pancakes were divine. And the veggies (collard greens, corn, and broccoli casserole) were all perfectly seasoned. Nothing was overly salted.

Come for the experience. Come for the LIVERMUSH. Yes, Livermush. It’s a thing.
I had to try it and it was fine….kind of like Pork Sausage.
The waiters (yes, waitress) added to the experience. When I told her I was a Livermush virgin, she suggested trying it plain, then with mustard, then with grape jelly. Fun experience and a true diner experience. No frills, solid food for a decent price.
I’d recommend giving it a try.

I’ve been eating at Shelby Cafe my entire life. It was a favorite spot to meet mom and dad for lunch growing up. I visit every time I’m back in town. That may have ended today.
I’ve been back in the area for a few weeks and have dined at the cafe two or three times. Service has declined significantly. I was ignored for a several minutes today. After ordering, I noticed others who ordered long after I did get their food. I kept waiting. Kept looking for my server. No where to be found. Was told they had to get more pimento cheese to make my sandwich. Food finally comes. Soup was cold. Again my server was MIA. After speaking to someone finally I was told my ticket was lost. That’s what took so long. So I was lied to on top of being ignored.
There are much much better independent restaurants in this town to support. I kept going back to the cafe for the nostalgia. No longer. I don’t seem to be welcomed there anymore.

Had lunch called in and paid for, got there and asked me to pay. Then it was clarified..staff was friendly enough. The food eh..the fried chops and onion ring were just ok. Very greasy and the onion rings were just plain soft..I tasted one the beer batter taste was there..just couldn’t eat them. I also got beets..those were actually good. The tea had too much ice and didnt have enough tea. Overall, not a good lunch. Definitely wouldn’t try chood or onion rings again .

What a breakfast!!! I loved my western omelette! My husband had the a burger and it was so good! The food was so well seasoned and the service was quick but so effective! I loved my coffee and the location of the restaurant as well. This is my first time in NC and this place felt very authentic and it was nice to hear the NC accent! Would come again if in the area!!

What a wonderful experience! This was our first visit, and we’ll definitely be returning. Learned Shelby Cafe opened on this spot in 1922. It continues to serve home cooked foods and preserve the original diner-style atmosphere. The menu has a variety of breakfast items (served all day), salads, sandwiches, daily specials, vegetables, corn bread, rolls, and pies. Servers warmly greet you as you enter and direct you to seat yourself at any table or booth. The food is delicious, and you receive ample portions (we had to request carryout containers). If you’re looking for a nostalgic, quaint, dining experience sitting among Shelby locals, then you will thoroughly enjoy dining at Shelby Cafe. Oh, they also offer takeout and cater events.
