Sheger Spring Ethiopian Restaurant, Bar and Cafe is an amazing place with delicious, authentic food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and the coffee was excellent.
A special thank you to our server, Eyuram, for her kindness and outstanding service. She made our experience even better. Highly recommend!

They have great food and average service. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy was it was cold like hell. The heater was turned off beside that it was nice

I’ve been a long-time customer at this restaurant, but my patience has run out. Like many other Ethiopian restaurants, this place has no sense of urgency or accuracy. The service is painfully slow, and the staff consistently gets my order wrong. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve asked them not to put aybe (cheese) in my dish — at least 10 times now — and yet, every single time, they ignore this simple request. It’s beyond frustrating and shows a complete lack of care or attention to customer instructions. Waiting over an hour just to receive the wrong food is unacceptable. I’m extremely disappointed and would never recommend this place to anyone.

Authentic, flavorful, beautiful presentation and generous portion with a fair price point
Several options to choose from
Servers sometimes have to work the bar and tables so wait time can be a little longer and they may not be as attentive to refilling drinks etc. but very prompt if you get their attention. Upside is they are not at your table constantly so it is easy to enjoy your meal and company without feeling rushed or interrupted as often as traditional American dining (personally I prefer this).

Really tasty Ethiopian food with 5 star service. Waiters were patient and helped us order for our big group. They were also accommodating for the kids with us. Highly recommended in Silver Spring.

This is a great spot in Silver Spring with authentic Ethiopian food and rich, comforting flavors. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a nice place to sit, eat, and enjoy the experience. Service is friendly, and the café has a genuine, home-style feel that keeps me coming back. Highly recommended for anyone craving Ethiopian cuisine.

We waited more than 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. During that time, there were four servers standing behind the bar watching soccer and completely ignoring the guests. I eventually had to go up and place the order myself. After that, we waited nearly an hour before the food finally arrived. The staff showed no sense of urgency or concern for the customers. The lack of customer service was unbelievable, no check-ins, no refills, not even an apology for the long wait. The overall experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. Definitely not a place I would recommend or return to.

I was at Sheger to get the special beef combo (kebet). When I first entered the restaurant, there were no clean tables, so I just sat at a random unclean table. After that, no one greeted me or took my order for more than 20 minutes, and all the chairs were unorganized. After a long wait, someone finally came to take my order, but he didn’t clean the dirty table. When my friends arrived, the food finally came, but we received the wrong order. We had to put napkins on the table to avoid getting our clothes dirty. Overall, the service was really bad. They need to work on it unless they want to push their customers away.

I had a very disappointing experience here. After my meal, I wrote in and signed for a specific tip amount (20%) but when I checked my bank statement later, the total charge was higher than what I authorized. The server had added an extra tip (20%) after I signed the receipt.
This is completely unacceptable and feels like a breach of trust. I’ve contacted the restaurant and my bank to dispute the charge. I hope management takes this seriously and reviews their staff and billing practices so it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Be sure to double-check your receipts if you dine here.

After a bad cup of coffee down the street (Café K), Sheger Spring was a lifesaver. It’s a bit pricier for a smaller cup, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The coffee is fresh, strong, and bold—exactly what I wanted.
