The naan breads were shockingly small, around five inches in diameter and perfectly circular. They looked more like mini supermarket flatbreads than proper restaurant naan.
For mains, we ordered a garlic chilli chicken and a lamb naga. These are two completely different styles of curry and should taste very distinct. Instead, both sauces tasted almost identical. Same base, same flavour profile, just different meat dropped in. The meat in both dishes was cut into tiny pieces and did not taste great quality.
Starters were around £10 each. We had lamb chops and half a chicken. When they arrived, they were served on tiny little four or five inch plates that genuinely looked like IKEA side plates.
The half chicken was basically one chicken leg with zero tandoori flavour, just plain chicken with a bit of salad on the side. We had specifically asked for lots of chopped green chillies. Instead, the kitchen sent out about five whole green chillies, unchopped. What exactly are you meant to do with whole chillies on top of a plain chicken leg?
The lamb chops were dry and looked like they had been sitting around for a while. They were passable, but nothing special and certainly not worth the price.
To be fair, the pints of Kingfisher were good. Fresh, cold, clean taps and reasonably priced. Drinks were the only positive.
The total bill was over £100. We paid in full, including service charge, and did not send anything back because we were hungry, but it was a huge let down, especially given the booking and the occasion.
If you are heading to Brick Lane, I would strongly recommend Bengal Village instead. Sheba was a massive disappointment and I would not return.
The service was just as impressive – the staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel very welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to enjoy a great meal.
If you’re looking for a restaurant on Brick Lane that serves amazing South Asian food with top-notch service, I highly recommend Sheba Restaurant. I’ll definitely be visiting again!
The food was very nice, and can be tailored according to the palate, and the waiting staff were excellent bearing in mind we were a large and demanding group with extremely liberal demands for drinks!
I would definitely recommend it.
Muhzin top waiter
When ordering food we were asking for apna style and the waiters pen wasn’t even moving
We asked for 1/4 chicken spicy starter desi style and extra chillies. They didn’t really do it. Just brought whole chillies on a plate. That’s not what we meant.
Starters were bad. Quarter chicken was tiny and no flavour. Lamb wasn’t good either. Said sizzling but nothing was sizzling.
Naans were really small and cut up into four bits to look bigger.
Two curries ordered that were meant to be different. Tasted basically the same. One was meant to have Naga flavour but couldn’t really tell.
At the end they asked for feedback. We told them what we thought. Felt awkward after, like they thought we wouldn’t pay. But we paid everything including service. We didn’t send food back because we were hungry.
Not the worst meal ever. But nowhere near what they claim.
The food tastes authentic and fresh, and the portions are generous. On top of that, Saiful and Naeem provided excellent service, friendly and attentive throughout the meal.
For anyone visiting Brick Lane looking for real Indian and Bangladeshi flavours, Sheba’s mixed grill and lamb shank are must-tries. I’ll definitely be returning
