Note: These are photos of take out and I’m sure it didn’t look this messy when I picked them up. Please don’t judge purely on that. I really wish this place was good. I like to support local establishments and I would like nothing more than for them to have a thriving business in The Dalles, however I feel they need to up their game a few notches before I can recomend this place to people. The gyro meat was very disappointing. I’ve read other reviews where the owner says they make everything in house. If they tell me with a straight face that this is made in house I would be very surprised. It’s like the processed frozen bologna of gyro and is not worth ordering. Not roasted on a vertical spit and has no crispyness or roasted flavor. The shawarma is also not roasted on a spit. It looks like chunks of seasoned thigh meat which is fine but it is not shawarma. The hummus and taziki or was it garlic sauce? I honestly couldn’t tell was watery and lacking in seasoning. The falafel was so coarsely ground that there were large chunks of chickpea unlike any falafel I’ve ever had. The flavor was decent but the texture was unpleasant. The rice was pale and under seasoned. Again, I never thought I would eat at a shawarma place where the rice was so bland. The pita is store bought which is fine, most places are. I guess I could go on but the review is long enough already. I know selling shawarma in The Dalles Oregon must be a tough market but if they could do just a little better it has the potential to be a gem. Sorry for the harsh words.

I don’t leave reviews often, but Shawarma Hutch absolutely deserves it. This is hands down some of the best Mediterranean food I’ve had in a long time.
The lamb gyro was unreal, perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with flavor. The meat had that fresh-off-the-spit taste, and the portions were generous without feeling sloppy. The tzatziki? Fresh, garlicky, and balanced, not watered down like some places. Every bite tasted intentional.
You can tell they actually care about what they’re serving. The falafel was crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. Everything tasted fresh, not reheated or mass-produced. On top of that, the prices are super reasonable for how much food you get.
The service was friendly and welcoming, the kind of spot where you feel good spending your money.
If you’re even slightly craving a gyro or shawarma, stop scrolling and go try this place. Hidden gem for sure. I’ll be back.

These guys are the real deal. I am a regular here and have been for over a year. Fresh & delicious food every time, incredible customer service, reliable hours, great sauces, and large portions. Sometimes the chicken wrap is my lunch and my dinner. I’d recommend the chicken wrap or arabi, but everything I’ve tried there has been delicious. All in all they are a really nice family who cooks great food! Go try some!!

I have had this type of food every where in portland Seattle and all… but this place hits above all of them. Even though they dont have a rotisserie the family works hard to make sure you get the best food out there. I tried falafel wrap ( really really good) and lamb gyro ( delicious) both where amazing. Ignore the negative reviews. This place will surely survive your palette.

Shawarma Hutch! So much to say, their food is fresh, the service is prompt, and the prices are fair. I see others comparing it to fast food – this food is prepared fresh and made with love. They are kind and go out of their way to connect with their customers. Always a treat, after I eat their food I don’t feel bloated or sluggish, I feel energized and full in the best way! Thanks Shawarma, don’t change a thing!

Ordered a lamb gyro, which I figured would be a fairly standardized item.
The meat seemed to be processed and preformed, and the Hutch drizzled two different mystery sauces on it. Neither sauce was the standard tzatziki. One sauce was some bland white salad dressing (like ranch, minus the garlic & herbs), and the other was a pale orange-colored sauce that looked like that horrid Mexi-ranch goo at Applebee’s. Ugh. The pita was soft, and the crisp veggies were nice, but the two mystery sauces plus the preformed processed meat were no bueno.
I also ordered baklava, which looks beautiful, but I can’t eat it till this lump of preformed meat + duet of mystery sauce begins to digest, which may be a long while .
Sorry, Hutch. I badly want to support local family-owned joints. Y’all seem so nice.

This is the second time I’ve eaten here.
The first time, I asked for no tzatziki (can’t have dairy) and they put a card in my delivery saying that they exchanged it for a dairy free garlic sauce and OMG it was delicious!
I had the same order tonight and the restaurant called and made sure that I knew the meat was marinated in yogurt to make sure I’d be okay. Again, SO SO DELICIOUS.
Top notch service, top notch food.
