First time at Grantley Hall. Have followed Shaun Rankin and wanted to try his food for a long time.
The restaurant is really fancy in an amazing building. On entering it feels more like a 2 or 3 star restaurant, and from the initial contact to the service throughout, this is how it felt.
The food, while really good, didn’t quite match up to the service in our eyes. We’ve been to a few Michelin starred places (1-3 stars) and the service here was up there with the best.
Some of the courses were amazing. The oyster dish, and the signature bread dish with beef tea were spectacular. As was the pumpkin magnum. Delicious.
Some of the food felt a bit under seasoned or lacked as much punch in flavour as hoped. A crack of salt might have helped every dish.
Like the scallop dish (sauce was a bit flat), the cruffin and tunworth was bland to be honest. Couldn’t taste the truffle. The sweetbread dish was a bit gristly.
Just overall the food didn’t hit the heights we expected, but the service was incredible.
Oh and we went to Valerie’s bar after. Very strange. Felt like we were in a 1980s Miami strip club haha
Not my first visit for ” posh sausage rolls!” and it never disappoints.
All of the team are great at their Jobs and very welcoming, look forward to returning.
Thanks also for the Birthday Card and the plate of sweet treats, very thoughtful
The experience started in the drawing room, with the most deliciously scrumptious first course.
The rest of the meal was equally great and the service was brilliant too. The servers were so lovely – it all added to the ambience.
We were there for a couple of hours and I must say it was a delightful experience.
We finished back in the drawing room for the last course and left very happy.
We had the vegetarian menu.
My friend met some of his friends there and we all had a chat and compared notes- as you do!!!
I’d also like to say thank you for making the evening special, with a signed birthday card, as we were celebrating the birthday of one of our group of friends.
The service they provided is excellent and ceremonial. We ordered 7course Tasting Menu. Food is delicately presented and the quantity is just right. And the sommelier is very knowledgable and their non-alcoholic flight is definitely a bonus! They do make lots of efforts to meet the clients’ expectation, I am surprised how good the pairing is to go with the food. I walked around the garden after the satisfied meal. Would definitely visit again next time in this area.
The lack of depth in the vegetarian tasting menu means 4* rather than 5* but certainly worth a visit for the ambience, service and overall dining experience.
