I tried Shangrila Himalayan Kitchen while visiting Lake Tahoe, and I really enjoyed the food. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and comforting — a perfect meal after a cold day outdoors. The biryani and sizzling platter were especially tasty and full of rich flavor.
Service was friendly, though the food did take quite a while to arrive — about an hour in our case. It seems the kitchen gets busy, so it’s best to come with a bit of patience. That said, the quality of the dishes made the wait worthwhile, and the warm atmosphere made for a pleasant dining experience overall.
I’d happily come back for the food again, especially when I have a relaxed evening to enjoy it.

Make sure to try the momos here—they are delicious in any form, especially in the soup if you’re looking for something unique. The Mango Lassi is my absolute favorite and definitely worth the price. I also tried the noodle soup; the lamb version was great, but the chicken one is also perfect for a cold, snowy evening. Highly recommend stopping by during your trip!

INCREDIBLE! The biggest thank you to Tej – we hosted a dinner here for our wedding weekend and he was so gracious and went above and beyond to make it the most special night. The food was delicious and the atmosphere so cozy. We love coming here after a day of hiking and playing in Tahoe and had the best time sharing it with all our favorite people. Thank you Tej and staff!!

Shangrila Himalayan Kitchen offers great-tasting food with a cozy and comfortable seating area, making it a tempting spot for Himalayan cuisine lovers.

HOWEVER , the service was extremely disappointing—despite being told the wait would be 40 minutes, our food arrived after over 1.5 hours, with just two waiters struggling to manage the entire restaurant. Since it’s prepaid, you’re stuck waiting with no options.

!! ALERT !! If you’re on vacation or have plans afterward, this place can ruin your schedule—it’s simply not worth the time. Strongly not recommended unless you have hours to spare.

We thought we’d give this place a try despite the amount of 1-star reviews. In hindsight, I’m wondering if they were left by competitors because we saw very little issue with this place. The servings were not “large”, but definitely adequate. The price was a little high, but it’s South Lake Tahoe, so understandable. The food was fully excellent. I got the Lamb Karahi ($23 for one moderate serving). My friend got the Veggie Korma ($17). We shared an order of naan which was only 4 wedges (really just one naan cut in quarters, not very much ($5 regular, $6 garlic). We got one order of rice which was enough for us both, but not enough for leftovers ($4). The most disappointing thing was the chai. While the flavor was good, and tasted homemade, you get one small cup for $5, no refills. That seemed extreme. You should get at least one refill for $5. It’s tea. Not expensive to make. Or at least give us a bigger mug of it if you’re not going to do refills. The rest were expensive. The chai was just exploitative. Minus one star just for the chai. It pissed both of us off. Otherwise everything was good and we’d likely come back.

We got there early, about 5, and there was almost no one else there. By the time we left it was fully packed. Get there early if you don’t want the wait.

We had dinner at this Nepalese restaurant while we were at Lake Tahoe. We ordered Veggie Momos, Veg Biryani, Matar Paneer and Butter Naan. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The Momos were made fresh and served steaming hot. The staff were friendly.

Great food, service is painful though with the wait time. I have been here multiple times take out as well as in. Food quality is consistent and good. The wheat rotis are soft and fluffy, to my liking. Taste wise is also good. Recommended for vegetarians although, not for people who avoid eating onion and garlic. You won’t be able to eat here if avoiding onion and garlic is your dietary preference. 5/5 for the food and 3/5 for the service (the wait time)
