Look this place is definitely deceiving because it is in a strip center/mall. When I saw it in the search the general pictures that were already there peaked my interest and I told my friend let’s try it out.

We ate here on December 5th around 1ish. When we got there one other table was seated and we noticed that there was a lot of to go orders coming through. Maybe 10 minutes later there was another party of five and another party of four that came in.

The items we ordered were the beef soup, the braised pork belly, the cucumber salad, and the pot stickers. Everything was made to order and was extremely fresh. My favorite thing that I would go back just to have on its own was the beef soup. The meat was super tender and the flavor of the broth was just something I never had before. A little sweet a little salty but also earthy like a little bit of everything which is so good.

Second was definitely the braised pork belly as you took a bite of the cucumber. The crunchiness of the pork belly with the sweet coolness of the cucumber was perfect.

And I will say at first I was a little surprised at the potstickers didn’t have as much flavor but I realized the technique is you take a bite of the potsticker and then drink a little bit of the soda. Something about the carbonation and the sweetness really enhance the flavor of the pot sticker itself.

The Ambiance of the place was super chill and laid back. Again there was a TV on that had a show in the background it wasn’t very loud so you could definitely have conversations and our waitress was phenomenal. She checked in on us multiple times make sure we had everything we needed and was just the sweetest kindest person.

Really excited to go back and try out the other items because again I loved all the things we had.

My girlfriend and I were just walking around the area and stumbled upon this place completely by chance. We came in with zero expectations, but we were blown away! We ordered the braised pork belly and the walnut shrimp, and both were absolutely amazing.
If you are someone who actually appreciates well-seasoned food with real flavor, this is the spot. It’s rare to find a place where the food hits this hard when you aren’t even looking for it. We will definitely be coming back. A total hidden gem!

I absolutely loved going to this spot! Me and my boyfriend came here after a festival & saw this Chinese food spot. At first, we walked in & asked if they had shrimp balls or chicken chow fun. They didn’t but we gave it a shot. Ofc! It was the best decision we’ve ever done! The customer service was amazing, the lady, Elaine, was super sweet. Shoutout to her & the chefs! We were able to get 2 entres & rice which was perfect! The meals were so fresh & every bite had so much flavor! Will definitely be coming back here soon! Thank you for making us feel comfy & serving us with a great smile!

We were planning to go to another Asian restaurant in the strip mall and thought we would just check this new restaurant that opened up about 3 weeks ago.. however we ended up eating here because the food smelled so delicious.. The waiter presented a variety of suggestions and ideas to order.. Everything that we got was excellent. Compared to other Chinese restaurants, the food here at Shanghai’s had more of a traditional authentic taste to it.. I am definitely going to have to come back and try other dishes. A customer recommended in trying eel or their delicious desserts.. not sure about the eel but I know definitely I’m going to have a dessert..

We came here for lunch, and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. We ordered the house special fried rice, Shanghai-style braised pork belly, and a strawberry shave ice.

The fried rice had a nice mix of different proteins, which was great, and everything was tender and easy to bite. However, the dish was a bit too salty and oily for my taste — I should have remembered to ask for less oil and less salt. The braised pork belly was flavorful but unfortunately arrived lukewarm. The shave ice wasn’t outstanding.

On the bright side, the staff was friendly, and the plaza has plenty of parking, which is convenient.

Absolutely incredible experience at Sh Tapas in Elk Grove! Elaine was our server and she was fantastic! Suoer attentive, friendly, and made the whole meal even better.
I had the Beef Noodle Soup, and wow, perfection. The broth was amazingly flavorful on its own, no extra seasoning needed, and the meat was incredibly tender. We also ordered the double-fried crispy noodles, which were perfectly crispy and absolutely divine.
10/10 food and 10/10 service. This place is a must-visit, and we’ll definitely be back!

The service was very good. The people were ver kind. I like the wooden seating design. But the food i had mix oppions about. the dumpuling’s dough was under cooked and the meat was a little under cooked as well. Also the dumpulings had NO soup in it. I realy enjoyed the honey walnut prons and the fried rice.

I was reading some reviews and it said the soup broth for the noodles were bad. But j realy liked it. The posions of meat was fair.

So overall The service was great but the food was only ok. 8/10 would go again.

This place is special. Family owned and operated. Perfect food. We both got the beef noodle soup. Also, pork buns. Absolutely the best broth and soup I’ve ever eaten. An absolute must try. Great prices! Enjoy!

I lived in Shanghai for 5 years and I can hands down say Shanghai Tapas is the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Elk Grove. I especially recommend the green beans and the Shanghai style soy braised pork (红烧肉). The food tastes just like China and the boss treated us so well it was like being invited to her home. In the past week I’ve already been twice and can’t wait to go back. 谢谢徐总!

Cute and cozy hole-in-the wall type. Came during lunch since we noticed Shanghai Tapas appeared to newly occupy this space. Friendly waitress. Bf liked the cold noodles and pork fried rice, I liked the mini pan fried baos– came with orange soda. We were pretty full with leftovers.
