Shanghai Restaurant offers fresh, authentic, and absolutely delicious food. What truly sets it apart is the incredible staff. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and make you feel genuinely valued, and that care shows in every dish. My husband asked for something delicious and different, and the staff recommended a dish he ended up loving. The atmosphere is warm and family friendly, making it a place we will happily return to.

My friends could not stop raving about this place and it did not disappoint. This was some of the most authentic Chinese food outside of China I’ve had.
Great portions, very friendly service. The food was delicious.

Can’t wait to go again!

I found this place today and it’s seriously some of the best Chinese food I’ve had outside of China! I ordered the pork mushu lunch for $11.95 and it’s delicious. The portion size is large, the ingredients are very fresh, and the seasoning is perfect. The pancakes are prepared just right and there are two egg rolls with rice also included. The owner was so sweet and greeted me with genuine interest. I can’t wait to go back! It’s really fantastic!

Shang Hai has been serving vegetarian food a long time so they are a good place for vegans and vegetarians. The soup of the day was veggie soup and it was quite nice. The tea was jasmine flavored, which was yummy. The food was tasty and the portions were very generous for just $11.50. A good deal especially at lunchtime. Def recommend

I’m not well versed in this cuisine, but I like it. We went for lunch, and learned we can order off any menu. We were seated with the lunch menu, but you can order off the take-out menu, or the “dinner menu”. Service was friendly and really helpful to this newb, and I’m looking forward to trying some new things (to me) at future visits.

Shanghai Restaurant – Santa Barbara

I lived in China for a few years, and this is the only restaurant in Santa Barbara that comes close to offering truly authentic Chinese food. The flavors and variety of dishes are unlike anything you’ll find within a 30-mile radius.

The owner is full of personality and makes sure the restaurant has a warm, friendly atmosphere. She takes time to get to know her customers and is incredibly attentive to detail, which really sets this place apart.

If you love Chinese food—and especially if you’ve been frustrated with the options around Santa Barbara—this spot is an absolute must-try.
