Update: I’m reading some of the other reviews from locals and it appears cashew chicken isn’t supposed to taste this bland. I apologize to Sprinfield residents for assuming ya’ll like bland food, left my og review below! I’m now rating this accordingly!

We’re from Cali, flew into St. Louis and driving down through Springfield -> Hot Springs -> Little rock. We got the cashew chicken since that seems to be Springfield’s go to “Chinese” dish. We saw the long line at Hong Kong Inn the night before but it was closed that day so we came here instead. The dish was super bland, basically tasted like chicken tenders with some soy sauce gravy, there was just a sprinkling of crushed cashews on top. Also got the beef lo mein, it was also very bland, but did have bok choy and bamboo shoots which was interesting, the beef was tender. However there was no flavor in anything, we could not have finished any of the food without the dried chili flakes we asked for, they didn’t have any hot oil chili crisp either. The crab rangoons were crunchy, are they supposed to have crab (even imitation in them?). The egg rolls are huge, but again, really needs some sauce, completely bland!

We get it, you’re catering to the demographics, that’s why we’re giving this a 4 star since apparently this is what Springfield residents want. Had this been in any other city / state with a decently sized asian population this would have been a 1 star.

We chose to eat here when my boyfriend and I stayed in Springfield, since we were traveling through the states and this place was not good. I’m from Wisconsin so I trusted google reviews and was super excited only to be disappointed. We got shrimp lo mein, orange chicken with veggies and it came with rice, egg roll and crab rangoon on the side. I liked the lo mein noodles but the shrimp tasted old and gross. It didn’t look right either. The egg roll did not taste fresh at all either. It felt like they left it sitting out and served it just like that. The only good part was the orange chicken w/ veggies and the staff was friendly. I love Chinese food and I really wanted to give this place a chance, but the quality was not giving. Save your money if you’re coming from another town or state!

First time back to the Springfield MO area and was wanting some cashew chicken. The restaurant the group we were with wanted to go to was closed, so we ate here. The order taker was very friendly and efficient and helpful. Sadly, the cashew chicken was not good and the egg rolls were inedible. Tried to give some to my dog and she wouldn’t eat it either. Unfortunately this seems to be the case with most of the places that do cashew chicken…it’s just not as good as it used to be.

stopped here since I was in the area. normally the only Chinese I eat in town is Cashew Chef. Their combo meal is same price $9 but it comes with egg roll and crab rangoon and a soda. This place only comes with a soda. The food was decent. I had orange chicken and it was good. I could tell the chicken had been fried hours ago. I was not offered any condiments. and to my surprise there were children working the drive thru.

Subpar food, low quality chicken, egg rolls weren’t good at all. The filling was an odd texture and tasted like they ground up some other left over meal for the filling. We went there for nostalgia but is definitely not the Shanghai Inn of our youth.

I got the sesame chicken. It was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The chicken tasted bad which I believe they tried to cover up with way too much sauce. I also asked for it to be spicy but they must have forgotten that part. The egg roll had little to no cabbage inside and in not sure what the meat was. It appeared to be some cheap filler that also tasted terrible. The fried rice had no egg in it… just a low- cost attempt at something they could call fried rice. This is the absolute worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in my entire life. I would recommend that you do not go there.

New owners and man… it has gone down hill. Our family has been eating here for 5 generations and for the first time ever we threw all of the food away. It was completely inedible. Rubbery nasty chicken, changed recipes, egg rolls half the size they used to be, crab Rangoon was less than mediocre. It has been a sad day knowing our favorite spot is no longer what it used to be. If you’ve been here in the past, save your money and find a new place. We will not be back. It was a good run but we will be finding a new favorite Chinese food place.

My Family and I have bee. Going to Shanghai Inn since the mid or early 1980’s They have amazing food and I really like Flossy she has been a familar face to me and has been there all this time. The only complaint i have is they raise their prices all the time and they are pretty pricey anymore. I still go there ocasionally because I love their food.
