Shanghai is our go to buffet for over 20 years, they have a fabulous prices and food, especially the pepper shrimp and jalapeno chicken. We sometimes are in Springfield and will try a new place and are always disappointed with the price and taste. Shanghai Buffets classic sweet and sour and cashew chicken are really good too, plus the “To Go’ meals are a generous size and you can get a Crab Rangoon instead of wontons if you want, and a bonus the family is really sweet and are a part of Nixa’s community.

I believe ones preference for the taste of Chinese food is very individual and each chef prepares it just as differently as the next. I personally like the food prepared here. My taste buds like the flavors. The portions are large. I don’t mind the service or the occasional wait time in the drive-thru. I’ve never been inside so I have no idea about the atmosphere. I give them repeat business! 🙂

The food was ok but when the chicken dishes were getting low, I noticed they just added a few pieces of the fried chicken to the empty sauce. So no telling how long the sauce had been sitting on the hot bar. I was not impressed. So I probably won’t go back.

The waitress was super sweet when she finally checked on us and refilled our drinks. The manager was absolutely rude To me and my 15 year old son! We ate dinner around 530 pm And the food, well let’s just say the soup looked like it had been there since 11 Am, the chicken was overcooked we couldn’t even cut it with a fork, the French fries were soggy, and just tasted gross. I used to love this place! But last few times I have went in there I wasn’t satisfied with service or food. I won’t go back!

Ate here with my family on Christmas eve. Unfortunately there were maggots at the salad bar and when first confronted by us it was ignored. The second time all they did was throw out the food and go about their evening. Worst part was there were family member who already ate the salad without realizing the area had maggots. The health department is aware of it and the public should be too. If you want a good maggot dinner then I recommend this place.

Shanghai has been feeding broke folks on the cheap for decades. It’s an all you can eat buffet for a low price. Seeing some of these bad reviews are hilarious because I don’t know what they expected. This isn’t a fine dining place…. It’s a cheap buffet that will fill you up with delicious food on a budget.
Shanghai, thanks for feeding me and my friends all of those years when we were broke kids. Every community needs a place like this.

Great price for the buffet. Was $21.50 for 2 adults…they refresh the food fairly often. Small buffet but has plenty of options. They got really busy before we arrived and they need a few more people to work but the 2 ladies we met where very nice and friendly. We plan to return for the awesome shrimp and mushrooms!!

This place has been a local staple for years. It’s rundown and needs a fresh update. However, it’s kind of just what I’ve come to expect there. If you don’t like a buffet and all that they are….visit their drive thru and everything you order will be made fresh. I will mention that it was 1:30 when we arrived and I did see them bring out 3-4 new fresh dishes while we were there.

Shanghai Buffet: A Feast for the Frugal
I’m not a snob when it comes to food. I appreciate fine dining, molecular gastronomy, the Michelin stars. But I also love plain hometown delicious food, the hole-in-the-wall joints, the cheap eats. Sometimes, all you need is a good buffet to fill your belly and make you happy.
That’s why I like Shanghai Buffet. It’s a no-frills place that serves a variety of Chinese dishes for a fixed price. You can eat as much as you want, and trust me, you’ll want to eat a lot. The food is not authentic or gourmet, but it’s tasty, hearty and satisfying. It’s comfort food at its best.
The Kung Pao Chicken is one of my favorites. It’s spicy, crunchy and tender, with peanuts, scallions and red peppers. It has a nice kick to it, but not too much to overwhelm your taste buds. It goes well with their fluffy Fried Rice, which has bits of egg, peas and carrots. It’s simple but satisfying.
The Crab Rangoons are also delicious. They are deep-fried wontons filled with a lightly sweet cream cheese. They are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, with a sweet and tangy sauce for dipping. They are addictive and irresistible.
The Egg Rolls are another classic. They are stuffed with cabbage, carrots and pork, and fried to golden perfection. They are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a savory flavor that makes you want more. They are perfect for munching on while you wait for your next plate.
Shanghai Buffet may not be the most refined or sophisticated Chinese restaurant in the region, but it’s definitely one of the most enjoyable with food that’s priced for a slim wallet. It’s a place where you can relax, have fun and indulge in some guilty pleasures. As I always say, “I want it all. I want to try everything once.”. And at Shanghai Buffet, you can do just that.
