There really is a Shane! Family. Hard work. Darn-good BBQ. That’s what Shane Thompson built his business around. In 2002, Shane ditched his corporate job, tossed his tie and followed a dream with his wife, Stacey. He dusted off his grandfather Big Dad’s secret BBQ recipe and opened up the very first Shack in McDonough, GA. It wasn’t long before the community noticed how he always gives people more than what they pay for and treats everybody like family. Oh, and making the best BBQ around helped, too.

I’m a northerner originally so take my opinion with a grain of salt in regards to BBQ (as my KY wife loves to remind people). That said I thought it was great. I had ribs and potato salad. The ribs were tender and juicy with a great smoky flavor, charred on the ends enough to give it that flavor. I liked they had a good selection of sauces. Is this a road side smoker in the front, signs hand written on cardboard, no tables inside joint? No. This is a chain, definitely had the chain feel to it but that shouldn’t distract from the fact the food was good service was great and the price I couldn’t disagree with.

The last few times I have eat here there’s nothing but a young kids “working” and the employees are no where to be found. When we come in the door no one was at the register and then they went missing right after they took the order and then multiple other people have come in with mobile orders and got their food but we haven’t gotten ours and its been 30+ minutes. Other customers have come in and had the same issue of no one being there to take your order. I’ve been here in the past and it has not been this bad but everytime I have been in the past 6 months it’s been like this.

I enjoy eating here. The ribs and BBQ sauces is spot on! They usually have some good deals going on around major holidays like Valentines. Definitely a good barbecue joint that I visit occasionally.

Sitting here now. Stopped for a meal, have not eaten here in some time. Ribs were dry and very fatty, burnt toast, out of sweet tea, which is a staple at restaurants, and were out of chicken tenders and boneless wings. Restroom had no soap, which makes me wonder how employees wash hands, and floors were very sticky and had spilt liquids all throughout the dining area. BBQ sauce bottles were also sticky, like they had not been cleaned. Only 1 trash can was accessible in the dining area, others were covered to not be used.
This used to be a good place for a meal, I had another option close by, and wish I would have went.
In the meantime several employees were standing at the counter on cell phones

The girl that took our order was so rude. You could tell we had never been there before and she didn’t give us any helpful info and looked at me like I was stupid when I asked questions. It was hot in there and the bathroom stunk with barely any toilet paper. Had to get a refund because the chicken was tough and weird. The packaged condiments weren’t even cold they were room temperature and I was disappointed there was not at least home made ranch. Ranch is so easy to make and most places now days (especially with wings and chicken) at least has home made ranch if nothing else. The lady that gave me my refund was a lot nicer. They should give the girl at the register some customer service training or maybe another job. A smiling face goes a long way believe it or not. Won’t be back there.

The slaw and sauces were the gems at this place. We tried every meat. They were all dry, no taste. I gave review a 3 because of slaw & sauce. They made the sandwiches, ribs, and chicken have a decent flavor. I loved their original sauce. Staff were friendly. The BEST slaw I’ve ever EATEN! Casual country atmosphere.

I placed an order for carry out and picked my food up.when I got there they was not busy at all. When I get home I open my food to find my side salad was left out but they put the ranch in the bag. My ribs was almost nothing but bones looks like the meat was scrapped off and I was supposed to have a half pound of chopped chicken and there was 8 small pieces of chicken. My chicken tenders was supposed to be tossed in sauce but they was dry and very hard. When I tried to call the store it says the number is unavailable. Check your food before you leave.
