Used to love this place, not anymore
We’ve been stopping at Shaner’s for years during our visits to Pass-a-Grille, St. Pete, and Treasure Island. It was always our go-to for fresh seafood, especially grouper, and the staff used to be so friendly and welcoming and helpful.
Since the ownership change, the place looks brighter, and they’ve added a sandwich and chicken area, plus outdoor benches which are nice improvements.
But sadly, the service has gone downhill. We waited at the counter for a while before anyone noticed us. No smile, no greeting, just a cold transaction. It felt like we were bothering them.
It might seem like a small thing, but customer service matters. You can update the look and change the menu, but people come back because of how they’re treated. The food might still be fine, but the vibe is gone. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
UPDATE: And the grouper had no a fish smell …it smell like it was out of the refrigerator for a long time…30.00 wasted…. ♀️

I live nearby and have always been curious about this place. Definitely has a family owned vibe, was extremely busy during lunch which caused a bit of a wait. It was a little more expensive than I expected, but I’d say it was worth it. Tuna melt was very good and the fish spread was decent!
No one was wearing masks though so that was a bit frustrating considering the massive spread of omicron. Overall I’d go again.

For several years we have always stopped and bought subs to take to the beach. They have always been excellent. However after the remodel and the change of ownership the sandwiches are terrible. I bought 3 subs. The lady that made the subs barely wrapped them I guess because by the time I got to the beach they were all unwrapping and falling apart. The quality and taste has definitely changed for the worse. I won’t be going back. It’s sad.

I was excited about this place opening but super disappointed… it smells of sewage and old seafood like it’s gone bad. I got some grouper and it wasn’t fresh. I’ve tried other things as well. The gluten free pizza was the worst I’ve ever had and the fries tasted like the oil in the fryer hadn’t been changed for years. It was also chemical tasting like they didn’t get all the oil and cleaner out or something. The veggies they use on the sandwiches looked nasty. It’s just overall not a good place for apparently what it is known for. The only good thing is the alcohol selection and the coffee place which there is what looks to be old seafood next too. Seems crazy! There is also nothing that is gluten free which was super disappointing too! Hopefully they can turn things around bc there is so much to choose from at pass-a-grille.

Never been here before. Stopped in to see what it was all about. Nice selection of beef, chicken, seafood. 2 people told me the sandwiches at the deli were excellent. I ordered a salmon Reuben. Absolutely delicious!!!! $14, stuffed with salmon, yummy sauce, grilled rye. Will definitely be back for the deli sandwiches and to try some seafood. Good Size variety of meats.
