I was very disappointed to find hair in my food. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety. The hygiene standards seem nonexistent. I will definitely not be recommending this place.

I’ve been going there for decades ever since my Pakistani friends brought me there. They have the best grilled chicken legs I’ve ever had. They look like Indian tandoori chicken but taste is vastly superior. They also have other Northern Indian/Pakistan things such as lamb (or mutton) curry, lamb brain, naan, etc but the one thing I keep coming back for are the chicken legs. They also serve chicken breast/wing but if you are a foodie you know the legs would taste better. The grill is just perfect as outside is slightly charred but inside is super tender.

Although my Pakistani friends love their naan I found that to be lacking because the naan is thicker than I’d like.

This place used to be the original and then they opened multiple stores including ones in Sunnyvale and a couple in the city but now only the Fremont and one of the SF locations are still operating.

There is no service as you basically grab what you need yourself. You also don’t have to pay for tips unless you want to. Overall this is the highest quality Pakistani grilled chicken you can get even if you go to Pakistan (according to my friends).

There is usually no wait and I do recommend coming here to eat instead of go to because chicken pieces are grilled after you order and taste the best while hot.

Great Service at Shalimar Restaurant!
Here is a picture of one of the best waiters at Shalimar!
He is always fast, hardworking, and very professional.
Every time I come, he is kind, quick, and takes care of everyone so well.
He really deserves a higher position because he works with heart and always gives his best.

Also, I want to say that the whole team at Shalimar is very nice and friendly.
They all work hard and make the place feel warm and welcoming.
Thank you to all the staff for the great service! ️

Went there for dinner on a weekend. The restaurant was busy but still had plenty of seating area. Like other Indian-Pakistani restaurants, you order and pay at the counter first, and you have to get your own plates, utensils, etc. The order came out very fast so we didn’t have to wait long.

We ordered chicken biryani, goat curry, naan, kebabs, and mango lassi. The food was good but lacked that extra flavor. It was a bit bland/normal for our taste. The price is very reasonable compared to similar places and they also have free chai tea. Plenty of parking space outside too.

Fantastic place for Mughlai food in East Bay and similar taste to Pakwaan. Good portions sizes and very quick service. Every item we ordered was excellent. Biggest praise goes to the tandoori roti, soft and fluffy with that perfect crispness. The goat karhai was flavorful and they used the good rib meat. Beef seekh kebabs and chicken tandoori were also delicious. We also had a tomato based chicken dish called Murgi korma salan which was quite nice, mostly boneless chicken. Place is fully halal. They also offer complimentary chai though it does run out. Affordable.

A nice place for Pakistani food.

Order at the counter, take your own utensils and food will be brought to you.

Chai tea is free!

Food: Chicken tikka masala is on spicy side, portion is small but tastes really good.
Malai Boti is also good but it bit of bland.
The naan options are all superb! Get the aloo parantha, it is spicy and tasty!

Beyond the bugs, the food here is just abysmally bland

We went with the Shahi Biriyani, Goat Karahi, and some other non memorable chicken dish and all had absolutely no flavor or texture

The Biriyani is just dry and has absolutely no herbs or spice. The chicken is also just dry

The Karahi is just oil and has no spice. The meat is very low quality and just bones

The only redeeming quality of this place is that it’s cheap. Would rather go to a fast food restaurant

They’ve gotten very rude and racist towards Indians. Used to love eating here often (the food has always been amazing and the owner is super nice), and I had been eating here for the past 15-20 years. Just can’t believe how racist they’ve gotten recently. They shouldn’t hire people who can’t live/ mesh in such a diverse society. I didn’t feel welcomed one bit and left insulted/ heartbroken, feeling the monstrosity of the man behind the cash register (front desk) who was indescribably rude the entire time. I sure as hell wasn’t going to eat here after. The ill-mannered comments were very unpleasant and unnecessary.

The Goat Biryani was excellent. Spicing was right on target.

I asked for butter chicken and was told in their restaurant it is called chicken tikka masala, so I ordered it. It was nothing like the chicken tikka masala I have had in the past. Huge layer of ghee on the top and not much yogurt, it was just fair in my opinion.

The chicken tandoori leg was overly dry, burned but nice flavor.

The mixed vegetables was poor, mostly potatoes and a huge layer of ghee.

The huge Nan was good but quite thick. The bread was delivered to the table in a reusable blastic basket which was nice.

We dining in, they gave us a togo bag to our table and then you have to go and get your own plate and plastic cutlery. You have to pick up your drinks from the cooler.
