I just visited Shalimar restaurant and ordered Nihari with one naan. Honestly, this was one of the worst Nihari and naan I’ve ever had. The naan was poorly made (almost like cold naan) and not enjoyable at all. On top of that, the cashier was extremely rude, which made the whole experience even worse. I definitely do not recommend Shalimar restaurant for Nihari and naan. Save your time and money and try somewhere else.

Good place to have Pakistani food. Everything is so fresh and tasty! Not a fancy place or the area. But the food is worth trying. Mango lassi is delicious!! Fresh naan and chicken biryani was on point!!

I’ve been to many Pakistani restaurants through time around Europe and the US. And this is absolutely the best Pakistani food I’ve ever had. First time I February 1996, then February 2006 and again in June 2009. I hope it still delivers the same quality. First time in 1996 dishes cost 4-5 dollars. Amazing!

The food is great. It’s one of the few Pakistani BBQ spots that I’ve seen. They have authentic tandoori ovens, and you will smell like BBQ smoke when you leave. Everything is spicy. Great flavor. It is in the tenderloin area, so do with that info as you will. The food is 5 stars for Indian/ Pakistani food (they serve both).

A hole in the wall restaurant with no fills bell or whistles but the food is outstanding. And that’s the best authentic food in the area. Food has been consistent for the past 20 years that I and adult children have been eating here. Kuddos

My go to for Pakistani food in the area. Every time I come to San Fran I always eat here at least once usually twice. So tasty and authentic. Free tea while you wait.

I love this restaurant. Not many places have Haleem and Nihari, but this one does! Everything we had was delicious. I ordered chicken Haleem and my fiancé has the Paneer Tikka Masala. The paneer masala was flavorful with a slight sweetness. The naan was huge! And the aloo naan was delicious as well.

Ive been eating at Shalimar for 27 years-I have eaten 100 if not 1000s of Indian places globally including NY LA UK DE GE etc. THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE. I had it tonight and sometimes its like how can it get better than that one time and then it is. The Tikka is unique and 1000% its own recipe apart from any I have ever found. Its simple but mega flavor, not overtly creamy a little oily but it the Tikka I compare all others too. Now I have had Indonesian that dresses up dishes like no other but for straight up dishes its the jam. Also the oven baked tandooris are over the top good too. Too bad Im moving finally from SF. This place is very much a part of me and my history, all the old times with friends (even the old Polk location)….all the conversations with staff, so friendly and nice. It will be missed!

When I need Indian food, it has to be Shalimar. I always get the chicken tikka masala, their butter & garlic naan, and the chicken biryani rice, but you can’t go wrong with any of their spinach dishes or their chicken tandoori. I love them for their affordable dishes, appropriate portions, and their hole-in-the-wall dining room that makes you feel like you’re part of the family.
