The Village Plaza, where the roti shop was located, looked like it had seen better days with a few empty business spaces. Shalama’s Roti Shop offers traditional Trinidadian food items such as roti (chicken, vegetable, beef), doubles, phoulorie, aloo pie, and much more at reasonable prices. I greeted a male employee who took my order of stew chicken, one double with tamarind sauce and cucumber chutney, and one dhalpourie roti.

My food was given to me within a few minutes. I started with the double which was delicious. The barra had a nice texture as it was filled with curried channa, complemented by the tamarind sauce and cucumberchutney. The stew chicken was served with a small salad, rice and peas, and boiled vegetables. Everything was well-prepared, especially the dhalpourie roti.

In my opinion, I feel the food is not filling, as I was looking to eat again after an hour. Other than that, Shalama’s Roti Shop is a decent place. I am interested in coming back to try their bakes, which is made on Sundays.

Alley is a great host, understood we wanted to share roti, goat curry and rice and brought it out in 2 containers with some extra Channa, potatoes curry with the classic spicy sauce only Trini’s can provide. Food tasted great and highly recommend for those who crave home food from Trinidad

Don’t be fooled by the modest and humble appearance of this neighborhood restaurant. The food here it’s always hot, ready and full of flavor. If you haven’t tried Trinidadian Curry before, do yourself this favor…
I ordered the beef curry with dahl / rice & a coke for just $16…
Nothing else comes close to this quality for the price…

The best Roti and Doubles spot in South Florida right under my nose and I never knew. Everything is fresh, seasoned perfectly and not oily or salty. The service is great and the wait is never too long. Tons and tons of free parking in front. Note they are closed on Mondays. Dine in or take out. Cheers to another fabulous eatery! We’ll be back⭐️⭐️

Came here with my in-laws from England to try some trini food. Everything was amazing! From the pholourie, doubles, aloo pie, chicken/beef/veggie roti – the food was fresh and seasoned great. The owner was super nice and friendly. I took some home for my husband and he was very impressed. Will be back!

I used to go to a different spot for Trinidad style cuisine for a long time and then they closed down and i tried a few different places around the area and the food either wasn’t good or the place wasn’t clean.

Then i found Shalama’s and I’ve been back there at least 20 times since and every single time i go there the place looks extremely clean and the food is always prepared fresh.

This is actually the first place i have ever had a doubles fresh from the oil.

I will continue to come here anytime i feel like a taste of back home.

The food was great. I tried the veggie roti, the spinach was delicious, and I spinach. The channa an aloo was cooked seperately but as individuals it was to die for it took me back down memory lane especially the aloo. The pumpkin was also a hit! The roti was a bit too oily personally, but it definitely didn’t disappoint. The doubles were amazing. I noticed a lot of customers were buying them, so you know it’s a hit! Their menu is simple, and you will most likely find something to eat. The atmosphere was pleasing to an old soul like me. This place is really true to the culture, and I say don’t remodel or change anything it’s amazing the way it is!
Be back soon!! I must try their Sunday menu.
