The Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant located in the Federal Galley has hits and misses.
The Braised Pork Belly Tacos were the recommended dish. They come in a set of 3. While the menu says choice of corn or flour tortillas, we were given rubbery yet burnt flour tortillas without a choice. It was topped with mix greens, shredded cabbages, sriracha mayo, lime creme fraiche and cilantro. The presentation of the food is fabulous, just look at the photo! Unfortunately, the taste didn’t match, the flavor combination was off.
The Loco Moco Fries, on the other hand, were delicious! Crispy fries loaded with Hawaiian smoked pulled pork and gravy, mozzarella, scallion and toasted sesame. The flavor was uniquely crave-able. Portion size was huge!
The Arnold Palmer got the thumbs up, the passion fruit lemonade got the thumbs down.

Spicy Gourmet Shroom RB is delicious! Just the right amount of spice and flavor. I will definitely be ordering this again. It is savory, yet light enough that you don’t feel overly full. It is light and freah summer dish. Do not let a fear of mushrooms keep you from trying this one! (They are not the slimy button style that most places use.)

Try their Lemongrass Shoyu Ramen with Pork Belly. While it’s not authentic Japanese ramen, it’s an excellent fusion of Japanese and pho-ish soup. I love it! If the staff learns more about how to cook ramen noodles, it will get better.

Locomotion fries were great 10/10, but the spicy tuna poke bowl left something to be desired. Staff were great, super helpful and friendly!

Hawaiian Shrimp Rice Bowl is an explosion of flavors. Garlic sauce, pickled ginger, cilantro, red onion. Off the charts tasty. Feels healthy too.

Dragon poke bowl is misleading. the description says it includes unagi (eel), which you pay extra for, but they just mean eel sauce. Don’t order it expecting eel. It’s only the spicy ahi tuna as the protein.

I’m typically not one to leave negative reviews based on one bad experience, but I feel I need to for the safety of others. I have Celiac disease. I ordered the Sweet Truffle Bowl which is marked as gluten free on the menu/website, but I also confirmed with woman taking my order. I won’t go into detail on how I waited for over 30 minutes for my order because that is not the point of this review. The food was NOT gluten free. It poisoned me so badly that I did not even make it out of the restaurant without vomiting twice. I finally made it home and spent the remainder of the day projectile vomiting. I realize that there is an assumption of risk with cross contamination, etc, when eating out, but I have never gotten so sick in my entire life. I’m sure this food is fine if you do not have any type of gluten sensitivity, but I am appalled at my experience at Shaka yesterday.

I can’t share a photo because I threw my $20 meal away. Yuck. Had the salmon belly bowl and Hawaiian egg roll. They were bad. The flavors were not good. Bland. Fishy. Sour in a bad, unmeshing way. The roll was so dry–so so dry.
My cocktail was good (just from the bar), but would i pay $25 for these 2 drinks again? No, no i would not.

Food itself is great. However, when I order double protein on my bowls, most times I get the same or what seems like less than when I order normally (do NOT ask for double protein). Also, my order ready alert is never correct. Been notified too early and had to wait, and sometimes my order has been sitting there and I don’t get notified until after I go pick it up. This is very frustrating for someone on a time window at work.

The sesame octopus poke bowl was fresh and delicious. My kid got the pulled pork and rice, he couldn’t get enough. It’s a nice ambiance and good gathering space for large parties.
