My first time here and what a pleasant surprise. We were the only guests in the restaurant to dine in which was surprising for how truly great it is. There were lots of take out orders and drivers for online food apps picking up. The atmosphere was very welcoming and accommodating. The service and food was exceptional. Shafiq was a gem and even brought us out a dish of his homemade ice cream to try.
I will definitely be back to indulge in all the amazing flavours of India and to Shafiq’s amazing service and interaction.

First time trying indian food and OMG it did not disappoint. We decided to go here for our first times because we knew the place had been around for a long time. It had to be good ! And boy, we were right !. Shafiq himself served us and the customer service we got from him was absolutely amazing ! Can’t wait to go back already 🙂 I’d give this place 6 stars if I could.

Expensive for the little amount of chicken in each dish. Containers were all sauce, couldnt even see the chicken when opened. Maybe five very small pieces of chicken. We bought four chicken dishes for $80 and barely got one chicken breast amongst all the dishes. We use to love this restaurant but the quality and quantity is poor. Spending $140 for four people and we ate mostly rice and sauce (rice you have to purchase separately)

This place is a treasure. Good food reasonably priced and perhaps the most cosy atmosphere in town.
Shafiq is the proud owner, cook, and host.
And in a rare generous spirit, Shafiq’s restaurant allows you to bring your own alcoholic beverage. No corkage fee. While is common practice in Quebec I know of no other place in Peterborough that respects customers to this degree.

Shafiq’s is the freshest food I’ve ever eaten. Unbelievable how tasty this is. Super quality at a real good price. If I’m feeling flavor and fresh this is the place.

My family ordered what we thought would be a substantial amount of food through skip the dishes on Friday Feb 23rd for my Mom’s birthday. Our family has ordered from Shafiqs many times over the years and we have never had an issue, but when we received our food we were disappointed to find that the take-out containers where much smaller than they used to be. A few of them weren’t even full. The bill was over $140 (excluding skip the dishes fees) and we barely had enough food for 5 adults. We ordered 6 main dishes rice and nann. For reference they used to use 16oz take-out containers and we received 12 oz containers. Thats 25% less food while the prices remain the same or more.
When we called to inform them of the issue they were indifferent and tried to blame skip the dishes, which is ridiculous. They eventually sent out another small container of butter chicken.
Their only Point of redemption was that we did enjoy the food we received dispite of the small portions.
We will not be ordering from Shafiqs again and would not recommend them for takeout.

The best Indian food I’ve ever had – the way the so their korma with the sultanas and the rose water is my number one all time favourite food. I moved away and every time I come back to Peterborough I try and stop by just for that.

We go here maybe once or twice a year. The host is always lovely and the food good. Our last visit we saw some unwanted guests crawling on the floor…and more than one. I will not be back until they deal with this bug problem. Disgusting

The Chicken Bhoona with the Rice was PERFECT TASTE.
When I first saw the Chicken Bhoona, it does indeed look like a small portion because it is. When I compare it to other Indian restaurants such as Rahman Biryani House, Friendly Indian Cuisine, & The Imperial Tandoor; the portions are at least bigger than that especially for the $12 – $15 price range. I am paying $13 which is the price for one small meal. That Chicken Bhoona by itself with no rice is definitely not enough for one small meal even. It’s like a snack portion.
The great thing is the owner’s daughter was very accommodating & gave me a bowl of rice as requested by me to compensate but the waitress is not that accommodating. The waitress wants to explain & wants to put up an argument that has been the price for decades. The owner’s daughter handled it with GREAT PROFESSIONALISM. Easy to talk to. Done, no arguments. Shafiq’s gets a 4 star because of the low quality service from the waitress.
