We had so much fun at this place! Our waitress Kim was a hoot! Fun, funny, and really cared about us. We were from out of state working in Louisville and on our way to Nashville, and had never been to the Shack in the Back. So Kim brought out a turkey rib and several samples of side dishes so we could see what we liked, which was so kind of her. My two coworkers had the brisket sandwich, and I had the pork chop sandwich, which was huge. The meats were fantastic, as were the barbecue sauces, which were not as sweet as their names implied. The green beans, baked beans, coleslaw, and potato salad sides were particularly delicious. The bill was very reasonable for all the food we got. The location was very convenient, just outside of Louisville and off of I 65. My coworkers and I highly recommend it, and if Kim is your waitress, you’re going to have a blast!

First time here and I’ll absolutely be back, everything was amazing! Ribs, smoked bologna, baked beans, Mac & cheese, skillet corn, and potato salad for the meal with pork rinds for the appetizer. Every single bite was 10/10. Zero complaints.

Extremely disappointed with this place. Heard great things about it. Got a combo plate and got handed dry ribs, and the driest brisket and pulled pork I’ve ever tasted in my life. Look at that ribs picture, and see that dry inedible piece that came off it.

The brisket and pulled pork were inedible as well.

I would go to a different BBQ restaurant 20 minutes away before coming back here.

I just want to start with that I was born and raised on Texas BBQ. So the review isnt going to be too picky since there is a difference between the types of bbq.

I ordered 4 items, brisket, pork, ribs, and the sausages. So I’ll go through each individually

Brisket: The brisket had decent flavor amd was a little bit on the try end. It definitely needs a little bit of sauce. Also didn’t expect it to be chopped/shredded, surprised me ngl

Pork: Not much flavor in the batch that I had and was a little dry. Needed a little bit of sauce for it.

Sausage: Had good flavor, nice snap to it, and was a little dry but not too bad.

Ribs: The ribs had good flavor, the bbq sauce on it was good and not overwhelming, they weren’t as fall off the bone as I would’ve hoped for, and the tips of the ribs were a little over cooked.

Now for the experience overall, the workers were nice and the restaurant itself was nice and clean. I’ve been to over 30 different bbq joints outside of Texas and about 5 between KY/TN and its one of the better bbq joints I’ve been to (outside of Texas of course). I would recommend for people to go and try it. Not a bad experience overall.

While out on a bourbon tour, my wife and I stopped here to grab a quick lunch before our next tour. We had a little over an hour to eat and get to our tour which was about 20 minutes away. We thought that by ordering barbecue sandwiches that the service would be quick and we would be in and out. While we were seated and our order taken quickly, it was at least 20 or more minutes before our food hit the table and left us to inhale our food to try to get out and to our next tour. My pork barbecue was tasty and tender and the sauce was good. My wife had the chopped barbecue chicken sandwich and said it was a bit dried out. The potato salad tasted like it had been made well in advance and while it was ok, did not taste fresh. The skillet corn was really great and tasty. Almost like a fried corn but just the kernels and not all the mess. If you are not in a hurry, it’s a nice little local barbecue joint with decent food but if you are expecting to get in and out in a hurry, I wouldn’t count on it.

Been here twice. The first time had to wait about 20 minutes for food but the second time we waited less than 10 minutes for food. The Turkey wings are definitely worth visiting for.

Great place! Good food. Love the sides selections. Definitely need to try the White Lightening Sauce! I like the idea of combos but they do not offer an option to choose which meats and the meats offered in the combos on the menu are not what I would personally choose, but we kind of worked around it.

We visited this spot on a local’s recommendation, specifically for the turkey ribs and nachos. The atmosphere was pleasant with comfortable seating. While the service was prompt, it was a bit unenthusiastic.
For our meals, we ordered the brisket sandwich with skillet corn and burgoo (a sausage soup), along with the turkey ribs accompanied by baked beans and mac and cheese. Unfortunately, the brisket was quite dry and uninspired; it was only edible with a generous amount of sauce. The mac and cheese was also bland and not worth ordering again.
However, the turkey ribs were an absolute revelation – truly fantastic! They alone are enough to make me want to come back for another visit.

Wait was 1.2 hrs long on a Friday night. If we knew it took that long we would have come another day, but was our granddaughters birthday and her choice of place to eat. Also it was freezing in there AC blowing directly down on me set at 69 degrees. All they had to do was redirect the direction of the AC or turn AC up a bit. How hard is that. I had to go outside to warm up I got so so cold could not feel my fingers. Sat outside for 10 minutes. Then got warmed up. Took about 20 minutes before I finally got attention to the fact I was cold and got the AC above our table was turned off or turned downed not sure which. Honestly I was not very pleased with the attention given when I told the young lady I was freezing with the air blowing down directly off and on on me. Other than that lack of attention and the long wait for food the service was OK.

Have wanted to try this place for a long time but living 40 minutes away has made it difficult. Decided to finally try it and was really excited however the experience was not great. First will say the turkey ribs are very good and encourage everyone to try them. That was the only good thing about the visit. Mac and cheese and the least cheesy Mac n cheese I’ve ever had, service was god awful and noticed one specific employee was very rude to not only customers, but talked down to her fellow coworkers which was enough to not come back. Our area wasn’t wiped down and a mess from people before us. The nachos were literally, the WORST we’ve had at any restaurant!! Incredibly dry and it was like eating cardboard. There was no cheese it was more like cardboard! I can’t stress enough how bad these nachos were. Will never be back and tell others about the experience.
