Loved our experience at Shabu Shabu House in Japanese Village Plaza
We ordered the regular wagyu platter and it was more than enough for two. The meat was super fresh, tender, and absolutely delicious. The cozy, authentic atmosphere really took us back to Japan. Such a great spot for quality shabu shabu, highly recommend! ✨

Everything was made easy to understand through the screens on the table. Staff were very quick with our food and refills if needed. Overall quality of the food was great, especially the beef. For $30, a large tray of angus beef, veggies, and refills on broth is not a bad price compared to other hot pot places I have been to. I would highly recommend if you are in the mood for something other than ramen while in Little Tokyo.

The dumplings were very small and had no flavor, the pistachio boba was super sweet and chalky, and the california roll was just meh. I’ve had better. I was not impressed and would not return. Also, they say they validate parking but they don’t say that it’s only for a specific lot.

The food here is pretty underwhelming in my opinion. We got the lunch set, which wasn’t bad but just quite bland. The service is all done through iPads.

First experience with Shabu Hotpot.
Did have some time jn the beginning to fogire how to eat, however, the servers were helpful in assisting us.

Order Prime Angus beef, Combo B. Food was a lot. Happy to say I am pregnant with beef and vegetables.

Tips: the broth at the end is the GOLD as it absorbs all the fat from the beef and flavors from the veggies. Enjoy that broth yall.

One word review: INDIGESTION. Let me give you nine factual reasons why you should think against it. The food itself was mediocre at best. They sprayed frozen beef with some mystery liquid before serving, I assume to emulate freshness. Secondly, they did not provide water nor utensils (we retrieved utensil ourselves). Thirdly, while refilling the ponzu sauce, they just substituted pure soy sauce (actually disgusting) and only acted apologetic once consumed with absolute disgust. Fourthly, they were dragging around a trash bin that was painted inside and outside with food waste and even parked it right next to us multiple times during the meal. Fifth, they started spraying extremely noxious cleaning solution all over the place, even as close to us as the seat next to us while we were eating our meal. Sixth, they were mopping essentially right under our feet as we were still eating. Seventh, they were essentially swiping away dishes the moment we finished the last piece of food on it. Eighth, the waitress just talked back like some aggrieved child when one of our party members simply reiterated a request that he was not sure she had heard. Ninth, when the owner dragged the waste bin essentially under someone’s nose, the same party members simply asked for a trash bin full of waste spilling out to be taken a little bit away from him. She gave a smartass response of “I AM cleaning.” I’ve never seen such childish insolence from the owner of a restaurant. As for the food, I can’t review it… seriously. The service was so stressful and honestly upsetting that judging the food was impossible.

If the owner of this establishment attempts to argue some point about our reservation time, we understood the kitchen closes at 9:45 and your restaurant at 10:00 we arrived at 9:00 with your approval over the phone. You then proceeded to treat us like people who had aggravated you previously and essentially had us eat an extremely stressful and uncomfortable meal.

To anyone who doesn’t want a poor experience of a breakfast, lunch, or dinner, please do not go here.

It took me a lot to spend time in leaving a review during a family vacation in LA first time in many years. This was my regular spot when I lived here more than two decades ago. I went back to have simple authentic Japanese shabu shabu dinner with the family. In short, I would recommend you go to some other restaurant in Little Tokyo if you are already there and badly need something to eat, or go to other shabu shabu restaurant somewhere else in LA if you have time. The food was not bad but it was a very bad experience of having it because many ways this place made me and my family loose appetite. The lowest point of the dining experience was when they set up a cart next to me to clean up dishes, with a trash bin without lid that two servers and a lady who seemed to the ‘owner’ of the restaurant were dumping food waste into. I asked the owner lady to move away the cart, and she said they were almost done and pushed it a couple of feet, and took time to finish what they were doing. Unfortunatley i already saw the inside of the 3/4 filled trash bin. She clearly understood what and why I asked her to do but wouldn’t give up the convenient malpractice. I am not going to say they were hostile but they didn’t demostrate even minimum professionalism needed for a casual spot they run. A man who seemed to be another owner of the restaurant was frowning all the time doing his part and was drinking some sort of alcohol (he frowned a bit more while drinking it) taking a break from his job. The girl who served us was busy moving fast around us but unresponsive to my request (i asked for another glass for beer) first and then responded with a blunt “after finishing what i am doing” to my request second time. Some reviewers mentioned the efficiency of the staff. She was so efficient that she didn’t budge to the interrupt from me. Regarding the food, it was not bad but it was far from the Japanese style shabu shabu this place used to serve. I don’t see the meat slicer any more. Instead the pre-sliced meat was sprayed with water after taken out of the freezer – i think that was the job the frowning owner was gingerly doing. There are more negative things i can say about but i think this is enough for those who consider going to this place. One of my son stepped out without finishing the food. They didn’t deserve the tip we gave. The original Shabu Shabu House in my memory is long gone but a new clueless Shabu House is there to serve you with a wrong interpretation of shabu shabu in its own efficient way. Hope the owners read this review.
