Shaaz Indian Cuisine has now opened in Ottawa and is all about the royal side of Indian cuisine. We are the REAL bawarchi’s, following the true original recipes, connecting our food and ourselves to the old traditions and culture, those that define the roots of cooking. Mandis are loved greatly back home, so we thought of fine-tuning them, allowing Canada to relish each one as much as the average Indian foodie.

Upon being seated I noticed that the placemats were old and dirty. The protective film was lifting on the corners and clearly they had seen better days. As I poured my partner and I water I noticed that the jug was also dirty. There was hardened food on the outside. I suspect someone had eaten with their hands and poured themselves water and the jug was refilled without being throughly washed. That bathroom was also dirty. I walked into a stall and the toilet paper dispenser was hanging open and clearly needed a clean. The mango lassi was not chilled and came in a plastic to go cup despite dining in…..rather disappointing. Food wise we ordered the chicken 75, butter paneer, and lamb shank biryani. The chicken 65 was good but the portion was small. The butter paneer was very good! I really liked the sauce and the size and texture of the paneer. The biryani was the best! The portion was large, the lamb was moist and overall the dish was flavourful. It was also a great value, but it came about 15 minutes after the other main dishes so we were almost done eating. Overall not a great dining experience. The cleanliness was less than satisfactory and the service was mediocre. The saving grace was the flavourful butter paneer and plentiful biryani. I would get these dishes again but for take out. If you’re looking for a really good Indian restaurant in Ottawa I recommend Sona. The service is second to none, the dining area and washrooms are always clean, and the food is fantastic. The price point is about the same but the experience is much butter!! However if you live in Kanta this is a decent option for take out.

Had ordered murg makhani and chicken manchow soup.
Murg makhani was average and it barely had 3 tiny pieces of chicken. Upon calling them, they mentioned that this is how they serve chicken dishes in their restaurant.
Manchow soup was clearly veg and they simply added water and some chunks of chicken last minute to make it look non-veg. There was no egg, no shredded chicken and to top it all, no taste as well.
Utterly disappointing. This was a complete waste of our money and time.

We loved our recent visit to Shaaz with our 2 year old. Definitely loved the taste and menu options, similar to what we have in India. Great dining ambience for both family and friends, staffs were lovely and their recommendations were on point, shoutout to Femi and they made sure we had wonderful experience overall. Highly recommend and will be visiting again soon 🙂 We had Ghee Roast mutton biryani, butter and garlic Naan, Murgh Afghani and Chicken manchurian.

We’ve been to Shaaz in Toronto and Mississauga many times and always enjoyed the food there. That’s why we came to this branch with high expectations. But honestly, this location is not up to the mark.
We ordered chicken lollipops and kheema biryani. Lollipops were just okayish, nothing special. The kheema biryani was very disappointing, no proper flavour and not like what we’re used to from Shaaz.
On top of that, they took a long time to bring the food. Service really needs improvement. There are plenty of staff walking around, but no one actually attends the tables properly. We had to wait a lot just to get their attention, and even paying the bill took so much time.
Really hope they fix this because we know how good Shaaz can be.

Food quality and quantity is very bad. Ordered Manchow soup and butter chicken for takeout. They said it’ll be ready in 25 minutes but it was double the time. Butter chicken came with 3 tiny pieces of chicken. Manchow soup could’ve been better but it looks like the quantity felt short and they just added water to veg soup to level the quantity and added 2-3 chunks of chicken to make it look nonveg. Taste of butter chicken is very average. Overall experience with Shaaz, Pathetic!

The worst restaurant experience ever I would never visit them again . And would never recommend any one . The manager of shaaz his name ( Qasim ) . And the staff already made mistake brought us different dish and said that we ordered this although we never did and instead of accepting there mistake the manager was debating. The chicken was smelling foul when we asked them to change the dish they refused to do .(Qasim) he specifically needs some professionalism in his work . I don’t know how they hired him . He was holding on to every other customer in the restaurant and was pointing on us bragging about the their mistake. We also ordered 2 kg biryani but they refused to serve us we said we will take that take out . They actually don’t want to do anything apart from standing like a statue in reception. Also, if google allowed me to post zero star I would do that . And the food never order their naan and curry . They will give curry’s first and then the naan such that the appetizer or curry turns cold then slowly they serve naan . Also , let them know if it’s on one bill because they always split the bill even if you don’t mention them . And then they add some sort of extra charges to it to be more smart until and unless you do check it . Because they did charge extra for one dish which we never had . I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone . Also , I don’t post reviews a lot but you have to know if you did the worst then you deserve this kind of review . The staff before them was so professional and much more dedicated to their work. I would definitely give zero star . Glasses not washed properly. Water has dirt in it and washrooms not even accessible so dirty . Food uncooked .

The Chicken 65 and Majestic starters were excellent, and the Zafari Chicken Biryani was satisfying. However, the Mutton Juicy Mandi was average and didn’t meet expectations.

Shagun is amazing and aware of what is good and what is not at the restaurant. The ambience was amazing and my son and I we both really enjoyed the chicken curry that she recommended and the roti and subji that she recommended. This is one of those places which has Romali Roti that I’ve been missing for a long time. I cannot even compare the chai I get here with anybody else as they have Irani Chai, and that has been my favorite since childhood.

Shaaz Indian Cuisine . A Delightful Experience in Kanata, Ottawa
The food at Shaaz Indian Cuisine was absolutely delicious. Located in Kanata, Ottawa, this restaurant truly impressed me — not only with its flavorful dishes but also with its presentation, decor, and the kindness of its staff. Everything, from the serving style to the ambiance, reflected genuine warmth and care.
As Asians, we often enjoy our food a bit spicy and Shaaz got that just right! I couldn’t help but share this experience because it was so special to me. My daughter, who usually refuses to eat mutton, surprised me this time she actually enjoyed it and even asked for more! You can imagine how happy that made me as a mother. It felt wonderful knowing that my money was spent on something so worthwhile.
And oh, the tea! Absolutely amazing. Ahalya and Ithihas, the two people who came to check on us, were incredibly friendly their hospitality made us feel just like home.
If you’re in Ottawa, I wholeheartedly recommend trying Shaaz Indian Cuisine. You won’t be disappointed!
