As many know, this place is conveniently located near the 101 freeway. They have an open parking lot that’s free, a full bar, and a beautiful open seating area. They can easily accommodate very large groups especially with private seating areas. And of you’re not from the area, highly recommend the hotel that houses this restaurant.
Now, let me tell you about my favorites here. First up is Simona, my favorite drink. It’s a stunning cocktail filled with flavors, passionfruit coconut foam, lemon, and coñac. If you’re looking for something extraordinary and refreshing, this is it. It’s a whole new level of deliciousness.
My favorite dish, so far, is their salmon. It’s simply amazing! They also have a variety of freshly made, very delicious pastas and pinsas which are Roman style pizzas. They also have glutton free options. The desserts are also amazing. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else.
My husband and I have visited this place many times, and every time we come, it feels like our first time. The customer service and food are consistently great, and we always have a wonderful experience.
The ambiance is fantastic, enhanced by the lively presence of a live guitarist. On our first visit on a Thursday night after 7 p.m., the noise level was unusually high, making it challenging to converse with my tablemate. However, our second visit on a Sunday at 5 p.m. was more enjoyable, with a moderate noise level that allowed us to have a pleasant conversation. It was a romantic setting!
To begin our culinary journey, I highly recommend trying the MARIA. It’s a refreshing drink with a unique fruity flavor and a subtle hint of balsamic vinegar. Another amazing drink is the SIMONA, which is equally refreshing.
Their authentic meatballs are a delightful appetizer. They are incredibly tender and bursting with rich flavor.
Their Fritto Misto is a bit different from their original Nonna’s recipe. The sauce has a stronger mayo flavor and a Mediterranean twist.
All their PINSAs are ultra delicious coming right out the oven! The best PINSA is their Guanciale it’s ULTRA DELICIOUS!!! We also enjoyed the sausage pinsa made with mushrooms and shaved truffles.
The lasagna and Branzino were both incredibly delicious. I highly recommend both dishes!
The CAVATAPPI and Tortollini are both delicious and flavorful. However, they are a bit more al dente than I prefer.
Don’t forget to save room for dessert. The sugared bignets are a must-try.
Let’s start with the positives: since this is a new restaurant, numerous employees checked in on us throughout the meal (waiters, manager, etc). The vibe is also welcoming and intimate. The short ribs were very tender and delicious. The broccolini with pine nuts was very good and a hearty side, and the French fries were served hot and crispy.
Now, the negatives: the mussels were lacking in flavor (lack of salt and no herbs) and one of them was served completely shut, with a few others only open about 1/8 inch. Note: if mussels do not open after steaming they are dead and should not be served and definitely not consumed. We ate what we could of the mussels, but would not order again.
The ribeye (served a la carte) was pricey, but we had high hopes since the ribeye at Nonna is delicious. The cook was served at a nice medium rare, however, this ribeye was extremely tough, lacking salt (again), and after the fourth person asked us how it was, we had to be honest and say it was the toughest ribeye we’ve ever eaten (it tasted like a cheap cut of meat from an average grocery store). The staff were incredibly generous and offered to replace with another item on the menu, so we asked to try the NY strip.
After waiting for another 15 minutes (no issue here, we knew they had to cook a new steak) , the NY strip comes out, we slice it in the middle, and it was completely raw! We’re talking blue and completely raw on the inside. There was no way it was edible. This served as confirmation that the cooks who were working steaks did not know what they were doing. After checking in on us (again), we had to say the steak is raw and so they had to take it back again and re-fire the NY strip just to cook it properly. After the third attempt at receiving a tender steak, we just were going to “eat whatever they served us”, which ended up being a mediocre steak with chimichurri that had far too much oil. After this whole experience, there was no way we were going to order dessert.
We won’t be back…
