It is worth the climb to the rooftop! A friend who now lives in Cozumel suggested Sereno to us to have a sunset dinner. It did not disappoint. On our first visit I was so impressed, I requested to buy the kitchen staff a round of beer. My wife had the chicken in Poblano mole. It has a little bit of spice to it, but is not generally hot and spicy. Very flavourful, and just perfect. The chicken breast is incredibly tender and juicy. Simple yet elegant presentation. I went for the surf and turf. My wife questioned my choice. “Do you really think you will get medium rare in Mexico?” It was absolutely perfect! the shrimp were large and succulent. Grilled just the right length of time. Firm, juicy, not even a hint of mealiness, so often with overcooked shrimp. The sauce was delicious as well. My drink of choice was a classic Negroni. Perfectly refreshing. My wife enjoyed a glass of fresh passion fruit juice.
On our second visit my wife went for the blank ink rice with seafood. This has a 30 minute wait, prepared paella style in a cast iron skillet. Once again, cooked to perfection, and very flavourful. We started with the goat cheese beignets, drizzled with local honey. Simple and very nice. Perfect for snacking too. I went with the brisket tacos. 4 tacos with tender and juicy slow cooked brisket. It has a unique Mexican style barbecue type of flavour. There is a hint of vinegar, and a combination of spices I cannot quite make out, and very much enjoyed, together with the pickled onions. I tried a Brazilian Mojito made with passion fruit juice. A fruit juice I like, and for me a little on the sweet side as a cocktail, so I opted for a terrific classic Negroni afterwards.
Their dessert offerings change based on availability. We did not inquire as we were filled up on the great food, and as a pastry chef for 50 years it is something I still enjoy the most at home.
Sereno is definitely worth the visit. Only open for dinner from 5:00pm, and reservations are required. We will be returning for our third visit very soon.

Sereno is one of our favorite restaurants on the island. We love going at sunset because the ocean view from this rooftop restaurant is amazing, plus it’s fun to watch the cruise ships sail off into the sunset. The food there is amazing as well! Having been to Sereno 4 or 5 times, we’ve tried a lot of the menu, and it’s all delicious, from the sparkling limonada to the appetizers to the main dishes. We always get the brisket tacos to start us off, but this last time we tried the beignets stuffed with goat cheese and drizzled with honey too. Holy cow! I could’ve eaten a whole meal of those. Our server, Marcos, was very helpful and attentive, and even took a group picture for us. We will definitely be back!

Sitting on top of the Albatros hotel, out of major foot traffic, it is easy to miss, but pay attention! Great food and drinks served with the view of cruise ships, ocean, and sunset. The grilled panela was fabulous, and a dish as mundane as roasted carrots was made into a fountain of flavors and textures. The 24 hour buttermilk chicken was exquisitly tender, and a steak in turf&surf was just rightly cooked and melted in my mouth. All sauces were interesting and flavorful. In its current location, it deserves the title of a hidden gem, but it would not be out of place in any glitzy downtown. Thank you, Chef Jonathan!

Excellent food; excellent service; excellent ambience – a trifecta of excellence. Very limited on wine choices but the food is the star here. The goat cheese beignets and fresh Mahi were both WOW moments. The pork and beans dish was very good but no wow moment with that. Prices are comparable to other high end places in Cozumel. That said, I can’t wait to go back which is the highest compliment I can give.

I didn’t count but I’ve heard it’s 59 steps to get up to the restaurant and I can believe it! The view is fabulous though. It’s a wonderful place to go to do some boat watching + for sunset. I had an absolutely excellent salad of mixed greens with fresh mango and grapefruit. The waiter had to go back to the kitchen to make sure they had fresh ingredients for a nice mixed green salad so maybe sometimes that’s not available? I also enjoyed the mango shrimp Pizza but I wouldn’t get it again. It’s a very thin crust pizza but still the bottom wasn’t quite as brown as I would have liked. There are certainly other items on the menu that I will try next time I go but I’ll probably get a salad again, it was that good. I found their prices pretty reasonable considering the view, but that may be because it is rather out of the way and again the three flights up will probably throw some people off. This restaurant is on top of the albatross hotel and is open air. Sorry that the pictures I captured just don’t do justice to the view. I have to mention that one thing I definitely did not not like and is the primary reason for four stars on the atmosphere is the pounding electronic music. I came expecting a nice Serene atmosphere and it just got to me so much that I ended up leaving 20 minutes before sunset because I couldn’t take the thump thump thump thump thump thump any more after an hour and a half.

This was our first time to eat here. Noticed the rooftop restaurant on an evening walk. I cannot say enough about how great the food is. Every dish is unique and made fresh. The server, Joel, was so friendly and gave great suggestions. Joel was attentive but not too frequent. He let us enjoy our drinks and the sunset. The bartender made wonderful drinks with fresh blueberries and lime. Definitely worth stopping by. Sometimes it is very crowded so call ahead and make a reservation just to be sure. Photos below were our view of the sunset.
