+ The soup is one of the best in the Bay Area. Rich and organic flavor. We ordered beef soup with tendon and tendons are so tender and soft that it almost melt in the mouth.
+ Large portions.
+ Owners are super friendly
I liked it so much that I returned the next week – we had extra yukkejang, which was spicy and tasty and also the crispy and flavourful seafood pajeon.
Mul Naengmyun, buckwheat noodles served in ice cold beef broth with sliced radish, cucumber and pear make for a refreshing meal. Make sure to add in vinegar and mustard to taste.
For hot-cold combo, order with some Kalbi (marinated and grilled short ribs) — a practice popularized in LA Koreatown, now widespread.
For sharing, Gamjajeongol (감자탕전골) comes as a bubbling savory pork neck and potato stew, spiced with chili, black sesame and chives. Yum!
If you’re not sure what to order, I would look on the walls or ask the very nice server for advice. The owners know their food very well and try their best to help you out!
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone curious about Korean food. Must try!
Service: 3/5
Ambiance: 4/5
Portion to Price: 1/5
Overall: A bit expensive for the portion size.
The extended review…
Food:
Galbi Jjim – 3/5 – Taste was pretty standard fare in comparison to others I’ve had.
Service: 3/5 – Standard service.
Ambiance: 3/5 – A nice indoor spot although we grabbed our order to go.
Portion to Price: 1/5 – Given the portion size and price I won’t be coming back for this dish. Maybe for something else possibly.
The soups here are nourishing on a cold day. We got the ox knee soup which tbh was a bit bland, it’s only got ox knee in it. But the rice cake soup was delish.
