A Hidden Gem with Breathtaking Views — But the Food Needs Work

We recently visited the Redwoods and were hoping to cap off our day with dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset. Being from the East Coast, this was a special treat for us. Unfortunately, since it was a Sunday, many restaurants in Crescent City were either closed or closing early. After checking multiple spots and facing long wait times, we reluctantly stopped at Seaside Restaurant and Bar, despite some of the reviews we had read.

Let’s start with the good: the view is absolutely stunning — 5/5 without question. We sat inside by large windows that offered uninterrupted views of the ocean, and after dinner, we walked just a few steps outside to capture photos of the gorgeous sunset. The location is unbeatable for a romantic or scenic dining experience.

Now for the not-so-great: the restaurant itself needs some work. Yes, the tables are sticky — but to be fair, it’s the coating meant to keep tablecloths from slipping, not a cleanliness issue. Still, it doesn’t make for the best first impression.

The real letdown was the menu and food quality. The restaurant seems to be trying to offer too many types of cuisine — Mexican, Mongolian, and more — and unfortunately, none of it feels authentic or particularly well-made. We’d love to see them simplify the menu and lean into what makes sense for the area: fresh, local coastal dishes. A skilled chef with a focus on quality ingredients could truly transform this place.

In short, the setting is incredible, but the food doesn’t live up to it — at least not yet. We truly hope someone sees the potential and gives this little seaside spot the attention it deserves.

Not only was the food delicious, but they have such a beautiful view! We went for lunch and it wasn’t busy. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it!

The restaurant is inside a hotel which usually is not my first choice for a restaurant but on a recommendation from my airbnb hosts i decided to give it a try. The location is great for catching and watching a sunset. They even have 2 picnic tables that you can eat at outside. Many beer and alcoholic beverages to choose from. Kind of a limited menu though. Decided to go with the fisherman’s mussels. Excellent

Food was terrible, I got the curry special hardly any curry on it. No salt, almost flavorless. I was so disappointed. Everything was super overpriced. Also, I also got the clam chowder which other than being way too salty was palatable otherwise. Got a margarita on the rocks with salt around the rim. It was also awful and they forgot to put the salt on.
For these three items it was over $57!! do not waste your time or your money
The view of the ocean was nice unfortunately, the table was very sticky

Food was overpriced for the quality. Bread pudding had no sauce. Server was friendly. The atmosphere was kinda dumpy. Beautiful views, though.

Overpriced, but you’re paying for the view, not the food.

Formerly a Hilton franchise, the hotel encompassing the restaurant has since gone independent. Customer service has improved since the owner’s son has apparently taken over day-to-day management.

I ordered the Captain’s platter, which at $38 was very good but not worth the money. The Happy Hour specials took $1 off of specific mixed drinks which ranged from $7 to $10 each.

My wife ordered the bread bowl clam chowder, which was serviceable but inferior to places in the Bay Area or Monterey.

The view was spoiled by weather but still a great place to have anniversary dinner.

Do not go here.

They were not busy, but the wait was over 45 minutes (seated) just to have someone acknowledge us. Then we ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. The server was nice and apologetic, but it was still bad. At least 3 groups of people left while we waited.

I ordered a specific brand of wine, but later discovered they only had house wine, but were charging 2 different prices depending on the brand you chose.

There was only one gluten-free option and it was a $32 steak. We both ordered steaks and the stuffed steak was very undercooked and inedible. We didn’t want to wait for it to be re-cooked so I found boxes for ourselves and took our meals to go. Everyone was also having a hard time getting their ticket so that they could pay.

Only giving this 2 stars because the waiter was incredibly nice.

We arrived in town late in the evening, and had there been other options open at the time, we would have eaten anywhere but here.
I have a shellfish allergy. I avoid all shellfish, but I still enjoy other seafood, like salmon.
Out of an abundance of caution, I advised the waitress of my allergy, and she all but rolled her eyes. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu, and my husband ordered the salmon.
My chicken was unevenly cooked – the bottom was so hard on one side that it couldn’t be cut with my fork, yet the other side was cold, raw and pink. Because of my desire to avoid food poisoning, I ate two small bites of my husband’s salmon. Bite one, not bad but a little dry and over cooked. Bite two, barely cooked.
My Pepsi was flat and my husband left the worst beer he’s ever had on the table. We begrudgingly paid the bill (with a 10% coupon from the front desk of the hotel), and headed upstairs to bed, after a frustratingly unsatisfying meal.
Not long after, my stomach was upset, my cheeks were flushed, and I experienced a mild case of anaphylaxis. I can only imagine this was from cross contamination, though I’ll never know if it was from my chicken or my husband’s salmon. What I do know, is that I would never go back here.
