Google should allow .5 stars as this is a 3.5 review. Keep in mind we dined in the reaturant very early in their opening, so things will likely change for the better.

Sea Capitán Cocina Costera (Sea Captain Cocina KC) is a coastal Mexican seafood which on the surface is a really fun combination and is located in a great area. The reaturant has a great outdoor space which for the area is not easy to find so this is a huge plus.

The staff was my favorite part of the evening. Everyone judging the management came to speak with us and made sure we understood the menu, drinks and even just had a conversation with us. My wife and I are massive foodies so we are noticed from other resturants.

Overall the food and drinks were very good, its “tapas” style so the dishes are much smaller than most people are used to in a restaurant coined with Mexican fair. I think my largest issue was portion size to price size. I am 100% ok with great or even really good food and drinks costing us $100-$150 minimum, tallent and food like this is not cheap, but we encroched on the $200 plus point and felt it was not really enough one way or the other (meaning price to portion or greatness to price).

We will give it a month or two and for sure update our review. Its worth eating here just prepare some.

When you walk in the aesthetic is so nice! Great first impression. Then the drinks! But not even alcoholic. I had an Agua Fresca with pineapple & cinnamon & no matter how crazy it sounds – it was delicious! The food was delicious too! Everything served on Yoli Tortillas which are the best around!

Big shoutout to the bar staff and kitchen! The drinks were incredible and the food was next level.

We started with the daily ceviche—super fresh and flavorful. For entrées, we had the shrimp and skirt steak with sides of beans and fresh veggies. Everything was a true 10 out of 10.

I don’t give out reviews lightly, but this place absolutely deserves it. Highly recommend anyone to go there!

After coming back from the airport we stopped at Sea Capitan for a late lunch on Sunday. The weather was favorable to sit outside on the patio and have a nice glass of wine! We ordered the Cod Tacos – Avocado Tacos and the Steak Chimichanga and all three dishes were delicious. Each dish came with a different ‘sauce/salsa’ on the side and the sauces were so unique and delicious. Out of all three of these dishes we tried, the Cod Tacos were my fav. We’ll be back!

I hosted a small, company holiday dinner here and everything was excellent!

Tony, Director of Operations, was very prompt and pleasant to work with leading up to and during the event.

The private dining space was nicely arranged for our small group and had a nice ambiance.

The food and drinks were fantastic and served at a nice pace.

All of the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Highly recommend!

Wonderful outside patio. Kat was our server and took very good care of us. When we mentioned that the menu descriptions didn’t say items contained cilantro (which tastes like soap to all 3 of us), she explained that they use micro cilantro instead of full leaf cilantro, but that she’d mention it to her staff. The fish was fresh and prepared correctly. On of my favorite things was the odd looking ceviche with the shredded carrots. Surprisingly very tasty. The cocktails were delicious. It was expensive, but we expected that. We will be back-and be extra sure to ask for ZERO cilantro next time.

When I walked up to the restaurant it looked very welcoming with people enjoying their meals on the patio and some even had their dogs with them which was cool to see that the restaurant was ok with. They even had an outdoor counter that they turned into a bar where you can sit outside and look in while you eat and drink.

I ordered a wagyu cheeseburger with everything on it except for onions. I have an onion allergy and they made sure my meal was onion free. The burger was perfectly medium rare and juicy. The bun was toasty and tasted delicious. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had.

The fries were very crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. I could’ve eaten a bucket of the fries. They were so good. They had the perfect flavor.

I sat at the bar since I was by myself and received amazing service from the bartenders, the waiting staff, and from Vera one of the Assistant Managers. She was very nice and always had a smile on her face. She asked me how my food and experience was and made sure everything was how I ordered it to be.

After the great food and fantastic service I will definitely be coming back for more. The quality was well worth the price and experience.

From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor — you can tell they use fresh, high-quality ingredients.

The restaurant is spotless, the ambiance relaxing, and the overall experience was nothing short of exceptional. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends and family.

We loved they had an abundance of parking spaces in their parking garage.

A true gem — 5 stars all the way!

What a great addition to South Plaza from the group that brought us Earl’s Premiere and Bacaro Primo! Food was excellent and drinks superb. I highly recommend the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. I’m surprised to see the comments about how the tacos seemed light on ingredients. Mine were stacked with protein and the Cod was perfectly prepared. Can’t wait to go back.

The food, ambiance and service were phenomenal. Best #pozole (verde) I’ve ever had in #kcmo and the Seattle, West Coast #oysters , were just as fresh as they were when I was in #seattle a few weeks ago.

The sauces… omg, each was amazing. Butter Garlic sauce served with the prawns was my favorite and paired perfectly with the oysters. Although the marina-like sauce actually served with the oysters was also great.

On the pricier side, but you really do get what you pay for. Well worth the money.
