A legendary place that is definitely worth the drive. The vinegar/pepper style of BBQ is not very common outside of the Carolinas. However, the star of the place is the quality of meat. Hands down the best pulled pork I’ve ever had. It’s a must of you’re a BBQ fan.

Our continuing BBQ adventures around the US brought us to Scott’s Bar-B-Que. Some say the best in South Carolina, these cinder block pits using hickory, oak and pecan, locally cut, smoke whole hogs Wednesday thru Sunday in Hemingway SC. This hole in the wall, roadside treasure was everything! The ribs were special, lots of meat, tender and amazing. The ladies behind the counter were super friendly and the atmosphere did not disappoint

Yesterday I made about an hour drive from Summerton to try this place and it did not disappoint. I picked up a Pulled Pork BBQ Plate and a family member got the 1/2 Chicken. It was worth the trip. The pulled pork by itself was good, wrapping it in the white bread and dipping it in the sauce puts it over the top. Because it is take out, just be aware there is outdoor seating, but if it is as hot as it has been here lately, plan to eat it in your car.

Traveling through SC and lucky to be around the area on a day it’s open, not exactly on our way but we made it on our way. CASH ONLY. Got there early on a Wednesday and tried the chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and the 3 sides offered. That plate was hefty! My partner and I shared and still had leftovers. Couldn’t believe how much food we got for the price. The chicken was great, the pulled pork was AMAZING, the ribs were my least favorite and they were still really good. The vinegar sauce is magical and I want to marry it. The sides were all meh and if I went back I wouldn’t order any but the slaw. The ladies inside were super nice and patient with us because we just wanted everything. Definitely worth going out of the way for.

If you’re out this way, you have to stop here, it’s also worth a side trip. This is the best barbecue in South Carolina and some of the best barbecue anywhere. You just have to go ahead and accept the fact that you’re going to need to try everything. The ribs are amazing, the pulled pork is unique, and if they have the smoke chicken you have to get a whole smoked chicken as well. They do it old school and they do it right. You will not be disappointed.

Millennials and beyond: Be aware!!! This is cash only!! You will need to actually go to an ATM and withdrawal money to eat at this amazing place! The prices are reasonable, the quality is amazing!!! I got the two meats and 2 sides plate; which comes with Wonder bread, allowing you make your own sandwich. The pulled pork was great but what really sold me was the ribs so glad we drove the 45 minutes from Florence to try this place out. Only thing we wished they had was sweet tea to complete our experience!

It isn’t what it was. We had a winter place about half mile down the road for 2013 and 2014. We ate a lot of Rodney’s bbq. Unfortunately when we ate there 6/6/25 the pork was not that good, the sides were not very big or very tasty. We did get very large portions of pork, but it wasn’t even average. Scott’s has always been our benchmark for whole hog bbq, but it ain’t what it was.

The holy grail of BBQ!
Wow this is the place. These guys really have smoked meats down. No grill here, it’s a whole smokehouse! Slow smoked with there own made wood charcoal. Served with a homemade tangy vinegar BBQ sauce.
Coleslaw was creamy and the pork skins absolutely amazing! We ordered 1 pound of ribs, 1 pound BBQ, large coleslaw, skins,1 pigs foot, and 2 iced teas for about $30.
Staff was wonderful and let us tour the smoke house.
Definitely make this a stop it’s worth a detour off the highway
