Great seafood and very kind service, with one small note. We had a really enjoyable meal at Schooners in Monterey.
The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, which set the tone right away. We ordered the fish and chips, ahi tacos, calamari, tuna sandwich, and salmon salad. Everything was delicious, and the seafood was notably fresh across the board. The fish and chips and ahi tacos were especially well done, and the calamari was tender and flavorful.
The only thing we didn’t love was the spring mix used in the salmon salad—it was a bit tough and hard to eat. We think the salad would be much better with a blend like kale, spinach, and arugula instead. That said, the salmon itself was excellent and cooked perfectly.
Overall, great food, fresh seafood, kind service, and a solid spot we’d happily return to.

Schooners is hands down our favorite spot in Cayucos.
The rooftop is absolutely worth the wait, especially at sunset. Sundays with the live band make it even better. The atmosphere is unbeatable, and the service is consistently great.
They used to have the best halibut fish and chips, which we still miss. The current cod option is still good, but the halibut was on another level. That said, the overall experience keeps us coming back.

We’ve been visiting Cayucos at least once a year for the past 6 years and when we’re in town we always eat at Schooners! Everything we’ve eaten is delicious, the cocktails are great, and the service is always super friendly. A few years ago I saw dolphins in the wild for the first time in my life through the window while enjoying a drink at the Schooners bar, a memory I’ll never forget! Last night we celebrated our anniversary at Schooners and we each ordered lobster dinners that were fantastic!! I really LOVE their potato croquetts. We ended the evening with their famous Cayookie dessert, couldn’t have asked for a better meal! They tend to be popular and you might have to put your name on the list to get a table but it’s worth the wait! We look forward to returning again and again!

Coconut paloma was not good. Cadillac margarita was very spirit forward. Baja cod tacos were good. Burger was fine, nothing to write home about. Would say 3.5 not 4.

I strongly recommend the pan seared halibut. We did go two nights in a row – the food is that good. However, drink glasses were regularly empty (both water and otherwise). Not a big deal with good company, good views and good food, just the reason for the lower stars.

The staff that we interacted with were fairly cordial. Not over the top welcoming, but not inattentive either. Atmosphere was great. We sat in the bar area with gorgeous ocean views! But the food….such a letdown. I’d been here for dinner previously, and there is a big difference between the lunch and dinner menu service. Lunch was disappointing. The food came out room temp, not piping hot. The fish was soggy and kind of bland. It needed the sauce to make it taste good. My friend’s burger was the same. It left a bad taste in her mouth. The fries were cold and not appetizing as well. Overall, it was not close to what I remembered from a previous visit. Neither of us ate much, and this is from a couple of besties who ALWAYS finish food. Maybe they truly shine on dinner dining experiences, not lunch, so plan accordingly!

Incredible dinner was served along with great music, and the ambience is off the hook. Our fabulous and bubbly server Brooke was amazing. Our dining experience was phenomenal. We stopped by for appetizers and a late lunch. We at first sat outside but the rain came in and were quickly accommodated in the bar area. The place is one of those that you remember with lots of funky decorations and plenty of atmosphere. It’s located on the waterfront with decent views of the Pacific and a good bit of outdoor seating. We had the fish tacos and clam chowder and found both delicious. Service was decent and bar drinks came quickly. We will definitely be going back on our next visit.

First time visit to Schooners. We showed up at lunch and able to get one of the fire pit tables for seven of us. We shared three orders of the Legendary Calamari and three orders of fries ++ beers for all. Good food. Pretty busy at lunch. Plenty of seating indoors and outside.
