Stopped in for some wings. The buffalo wings were actually decent which my husband got. I opted for the appetizer tenders. Looked like fried catfish and tasted terrible. Saturated with what tasted like reused oil. I only took a bite and realized I could not stomach them before sending it back. They charged us and when we asked to have it taken off, they said I had eaten some. As you can see I had only taken a single bite. The onion rings were an upcharge so I ate those while waiting for my replacement meal, thinking they could just charge me for those at the least. I never leave negative reviews but this experience really turned me off. As a waitress of 6 years, if a customer told me they were dissatisfied with a meal I would have taken it off the bill. Clearly this establishment is unprofessional and cheap, willing to save themselves $12 over a satisfied customer.

Friendly neighborhood bar. Busy on the Thursday night due to the coaches live show broadcast, but server apologized for the delay. We weren’t in a rush anyway. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Cubs game on TV and many Cubs fan routing on their team made for a fun time. Excellent wings! Very meaty and cooked to perfection. The onion rings were breaded and cooked to perfection as well. Nice and crisp, no greasiness or sogginess.

Wow! I stopped eating mid bite to write this review while I am not a fan of the green beans could use more seasoning .. as a chicken enthusiastic from Chicago I’m a big fan of Harold’s Chicken and Uncle rhemus chicken, and Southern fried chicken etc this is the crispiest chicken I ever tasted in my life when you go to grab a piece of meat it’s impossible because the skin is so crispy. It’s a thing of beauty it’s amazing when I previously ordered food from here it was Buffalo and bbq wings and they were good but nothing special. I went with the Wednesday special which is mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, with a half of chicken for 17$ with fries. this chicken might have come back better than I could have ever expected. The fries were amazing the barbecue sauce was good and to top it off this chicken is so good that it sounds like you’re crumbling paper as your eating it. BEST CHICKEN IN BLOOMINGTON NO I was wrong

Small town, midwest bar vibe, however I did discover there is a restaurant side. My waitress was very friendly and helpful. My meal was delicious. The tenderloin is huge, not the best one I’ve ever had, but very good. The corn fritters are on the sweet side and dusted with powdered sugar. Tasty.

Update on a sunday. We went out due to we didnt want to cook and not having our normal dinner guests. Down side draft beer was broken. My wife had the chicken planks with frys. Huge order. Her cousin gad The Blt with onion rings and I tacled half of the tenderloin supreme with a couple bottles of beers. All real good tonight. Not many people when we came in. Food came out pretty fast. Rare to go out in bloomington with so many empty seats. Took wife out for dinner. She really enjoyed her fried chicken. I had coney dogs with onion rings. Was asked if I would like onion and cheese after it was brought to the table. Would have been asked when ordering. The big 20 beer glass was nice and cold and went down fast. Second wasn’t as cold. Wait staff very attentive. Onion rings were good and very large.

Good service. The famous tenderloin sandwich was funny. The breading on it was crispy and good. Not too much flavor. I had the Sunday fried chicken meal, it also had no flavor so I asked for hot sauce. Mozzarella sticks were my favorite, and seemed homemade. The corn fritters were good, I may have not read the description completely, they were covered in powdered sugar, I wouldn’t have ordered that had I known.

This is the second time I’ve ordered onion rings for takeout. Neither order were what I excepted.
See photo both times I received onion, batter, grease ball.
Needless to say I will never order anything again.
Oh the tenderloin was trash as well. The bun was welded to the tenderloin.

While our server was courteous we had to wait longer than expected to give our order. Also our order took a long time to be served. The dining room wasn’t overly busy so I can’t explain the slow service. Our dishes were good but not so outstanding that I would be willing to wait a long time for them. I’d be willing to try Schooners again to see if the experience is repeated.
