Standard ice cream place with some fun menu items. Staff are always friendly and very patient with children. Lots of seating inside but most opt to sit out front. There is a slightly larger than normal sidewalk with a few tables and chairs. It can be quite noisy with Vermillion traffic but who wants to stay indoors with ice cream on a hot day?

VERY generous scoops (lemon bar and Zanzibar were excellent flavors) plus the “extra credit.” The waffle cones appear to be made on site. The staff was kind and helpful too. Bathroom is in the main building hallway.

The thing that I loved the most about this nice and cozy icecream shop is that the waffle cones are freshly made right there by them and they are wonderful. Icecream is good, staff is extremely friendly and I definitely wanna go back to try more flavors.
Note number 1: For each scoop you get a free little bonus on the top.

Stopped by to cool off on a hot day. Loved the selection! We ordered a single school dish and an order of nachos! Everything was great. We even got a couple of items for our two dogs. Staff was nice and helpfull.

Very fun ice cream shop. The staff is very friendly and interacts with customers. Your generous scoops of ice cream also come with “extra credit,” which is a small scoop of ice cream. Pick a new flavor or just have a bit more of what you already chose. Several cones and cup sizes for everyone. You can also get a pint or quart to take home.

This local gem is a must stop when we are in Hastings. With 32 flavors available at a single time, they have wide selection of ice cream flavors available that rotate in availability. We have always found the staff to be courteous and friendly during our visits.
Please keep in mind that they do have a seasonal schedule where they are closed during the winter months.
At the time of this posting during the pandemic, the flavor options are posted on the front windows and there is limited seating inside with several tables and chairs outside that are cleaned frequently.

My review prior seems lacking. It had been my first time going on a whim while my friend and I were driving through town. I didn’t think I was going to think anything of it after I initially posted my review.
I’ve stayed up at night thinking about schoolhouse scoop. I daydream about it. My friend and I go to other ice cream shops in different towns and say that nothing is going to compare to schoolhouse scoop because no one is ever going to ask us what are extra credit is, like schoolhouse does.
I live at least 40 minutes away from schoolhouse scoop so I have no choice but to find a different ice cream shop that can even kind of compare to the happiness I feel when I am through paying for my ice cream at schoolhouse, but there is never going to be an ice cream shop that compares unfortunately. So my friend and I will have no choice but to drive the 40 minutes for some schoolhouse ice cream whenever we feel like we deserve the extra credit. And we deserve extra credit. A lot.
