A cozy Japanese gem tucked away in downtown Lexington! I stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how great the lunch combos are—amazing value for the price. The menu is extensive, and judging by what I tried, I wouldn’t be surprised if everything on it is delicious. The bar also caught my eye, with a wide selection of sake that’s definitely worth exploring next time!

The food, the atmosphere and the service was all stellar! As the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover. I walked by this place several times this week and didn’t think much of it, but one you step inside be ready to be surprised at how roomy and well decorated this former bank turned restaurant is.
The sushi was UNBELIEVABLE, I’ve never had honey sauce on sushi, it was AMAZING. I’ve been on a big honey kick lately. The Ramen was really good and the curry was phenomenal.
Can’t wait to come back!

Maybe Friday night was not the best time to go? Made a reservation expecting that a table would be ready – that’s how reservations typically work, right? Stood at front for about 10 minutes while bartender and various people kept looking at us with no real interest in seating us quickly or making us feel welcome. Not a “how are you tonight?” even a smile from anyone the whole night. We were eventually seated, with no explanation of why it took so long. Once seated, the chairs were uncomfortable and felt like the legs were loose, basically a cheap chair that you could get off Amazon. Took about 20 more minutes for someone to come to our table, but server was not friendly whatsoever. Didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to drink, just sat down glasses of water. We ordered sushi, ramen, and dumplings. When we got our food, the person who brought it obviously had just been on a smoke break because of the way they smelled. Food was fine, nothing particularly great about it. Also, of note, it was insanely loud in the restaurant. Two large groups took up most of the restaurant and were extremely disruptive – drinking and laughing as loud as possible. They should’ve not let anyone else be seated while 2 huge parties were there. Food and drinks were constantly being carried around and being served to those groups the whole time. I honestly should’ve just left from the get go. Won’t be back. Can get sushi and ramen at so many other places. What a waste of a rare date night.

I’ve been coming here for the last few years, and the quality of food has always been phenomenal. Genuinely the best sushi and ramen in Lexington, in my opinion. I highly highly recommend!!

Aside from a beautiful venue with a vault, super tasty sushi, and a family recipe curry which was beautiful, our server was wonderful. The kids loved his service and interaction and attentiveness. Much love from the Windy City. You folks are the BEST!!

(Apologies for the half eaten food in photos, I forgot to take them before we ate!) School Sushi was SO delicious! If you’re a salmon lover, the fatty salmon was great. My other favorite was the spicy tuna tempura. The restaurant also did a great job of social distancing with plenty of room between tables – it felt very safe to me. Thanks for a great meal!

Although I am not a sushi fan, there is nothing bad that I can say about this restaurant, they definitely earned my 5 star rating!
We found parking on the street about a block away… which is free on weekends … and walked in on a random Saturday night. We were seated promptly in the rear dining area which is pretty open but since we were seated at the wall, it still felt quite private. The interior decor is mostly modern mixed with a bit of historical treasure. You’ll have to check it out to see what I mean!
The wait staff was wonderful. So friendly, helpful and efficient. Since I’m new to sushi, they were very patient and helpful to answer any of my questions about the food and menu.
There were so many different kinds of sushi and sashimi options to choose from along with other Japanese plates. We ordered an appetizer and chose a few sushi plates to share. I also decided on my own entree in case I didn’t care for the sushi. Beautiful presentation and very tasty dishes! I’m still not a fan of sushi but I did enjoy some of the sushi that I tried. I’ll have to go back again and try some other options, I’m sure that I would end up loving it all eventually!
Overall a very enjoyable visit and I would absolutely recommend School to anyone for some authentic Japanese cuisine!

We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and flavorful ramen, bento box lunch special, seaweed salad, and breaded octopus! They also make their own pickled ginger which is incredible. This was our first stop on our first visit to Lexington. What made our experience the most special was our server Joe. Not only did he give us spot-on suggestions about the food, Joe was so friendly and even took the time to chat with us and give us suggestions of places to visit while we’re here. We’ll definitely be back!

This place has high quality sushi and delicious food! We got a couple different types of sushi, rolls, and appetizers. Everything was so good! The service was pretty good and even though they were a little slow in bringing out the food, it was worth the wait.
