This place is the best. Service is excellent. Cocktails made just right. Great food at a reasonable price. And an amazing view of the Turkey River right beside their deck!!!

A unique and wonderful restaurant. High quality and excellent presentation. Beer selection is outstanding and a rare find. The patio is a great setting viewing the beautiful, historic bridge and overlooking the river. If I was not an hour away this would be my go to on a regular on a regular basis but so worth the travel.

Incredible beverage selection, unmatched in the state, especially for eclectic craft beers and natural wine. Very scenic river view of the stone bridge, relaxing patio. Tasty and creative dishes, prepared with care. A culinary destination in NE Iowa.

I haven’t been here, but boy oh boy do I want to! I know the owners and they are some of the best people on the planet. I just need to book a flight from the west coast to make it there! 5 stars!

It is such a gem of a place in Elkader. In addition to traditional American food, the menu has multiple unique items. I went there in a group of 15 people, and everybody enjoyed their food. They have a good beer selection on the tap, plus good mixed drinks too. Something II haven’t seen a ton is a variety of vegetarian options and virgin drinks in small towns, but this place had both! The service was nice and fast as well. I live 1.5 hours away from this place, but I’d definitely consider making a drive only to go here.

Wow! My family had such a wonderful time at Schera’s as we ate some delicious food. We sat out on their scenic riverside deck and had a dinner to celebrate the incoming marriage of me and my now-husband. The restaurant went above and beyond to make our dinner a special occasion and even made sure to be extra cautious due to my husband’s severe peanut allergy. The food was absolutely delicious, the view stunning, and the memory of the dinner is one my entire family will always cherish. This restaurant is an absolute gem.

The food here is excellent and they have a great beer selection. The falafel was great along with everything we ordered. The price is not bad either.

Update: Back again and even more impressed than last time! The appetizers and beer are bomb!

The list of beer you’re given when seated is unreal for this little town. Then I was given the bottle and glass to pour it in which read “The Red Monk” and it all became clear. Had no idea going into this restaurant that it was owned by the same people who run the great Des Moines establishment. I saw an episode of Iowa ingredient detailing their menu and whatnot and put it on a list of must try restaurants around Iowa. Since I was passing thru to do some trout fishing I had to stop in. Service and food were phenominal. I had a pita, sesame seed, herb blend (including sumac!), and cheese along with olives for a starter. It was so fresh on this 90 degree day. The lamb tagine is making me sweat but has the best smoked paprika I’ve ever tasted. I would highly recommend if you’re ever near Elader. Back to my dish!
