Scenic View Restaurant is a family-owned and operated establishment that has been serving Bloomington since 2009. We offer a variety of American cuisine, including our famous brunch menu and signature Bloody Mary cocktail. Our restaurant is located in a resort-like setting overlooking the Hoosier National Forest and Lake Monroe, and we have a large outdoor seating area with stunning views. Scenic View has been around for years and offers an elevated pub-style menu. Beautiful view of Lake Monroe with ample outdoor seating under roof, or umbrella. I really like the limited menu, which allows the cooks to focus on quality of the dish. Excellent weekend spot for a peaceful Sunday brunch. Great bar menu, friendly staff, delicious food. Today was whipped feta plate appetizer, house-made veggie burger wrap, fish tacos with a delicious aioli, spicy beans with plenty of cumin, and a Raspberry Beret.

This place has been one of my favorites for years, I can’t believe that I haven’t reviewed it yet.
It’s enough off the beaten path to be quiet and peaceful but, still only a short drive to Bloomington or the lake.
I couldn’t help but ordering Crab Cakes Benedict. The addition of provolone to a classic dish is perfect. The crab cake is Tempura battered which adds a crispy, crunchy texture which can stand on its own. The egg was poached medium which still let some yolk run but, not totally liquid.
My milk was served cold and with the food.
George’s tenderloin sandwich was also Tempura battered and fried perfectly. Served with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion. The fries are big, thick portions like a potato cut in half longways, then the halves sliced about 1/4″ wide, with coarse pepper and sea salt.
The mens room was very clean and well stocked.
It did seem that the AC wasn’t working when we visited as it was warm and humid outside and they had all the doors propped open. Fortunately, there was seating available outside.

Had not been to this restaurant for several years and decided to give it a try again today. I don’t know if this place doesn’t have air conditioning or theirs is broken.. But all the doors were open and it was hotter inside than it was outside. We sat outside on the patio. It took a minute to get seated and even longer to be greeted by our server. Once our food was dropped off we didn’t see the server again until she dropped off the check. And then we were given someone else’s bill. The food was okay, that’s really all we can say about it. Nothing glamorous. Just okay. There are much better places to go around Bloomington for $15-$20/person meals. There is a “Scenic View” of the lake over some treetops. But mainly you are stuck looking at a worn down parking lot.

Absolutely atrocious experience. This is easily the worst experience I have had at a restaurant to date. Worst service ever. We arrived at 10:30am and we didn’t get our check until 1pm. The host ignored us when we first came in, and told us she couldn’t handle talking to us at the moment. She then proceeded to tell an 8 top of elderly people (who had reservations), that they had to wait their turn, and couldn’t simply have a seat at their already reserved and ready table. She told those poor elders that they just had to stand and wait when their reserved table was already prepared. wildly disrespectful. The door to the restaurant was also locked when we got there (an hour and a half after they opened) and the manager seemed completely unbothered by it. After finally being sat, it took our server 15 minutes to even come up to us, and then 20 minutes to bring our drinks. It took our food an hour and a half to be brought to us. 90 minutes. Absolutely embarrassing. Joke of a restaurant and embarrassment to the service industry. No one seemed to care about us and no one ever checked if we were okay. Slowest, and most unbothered service that i have ever had to suffer through. Do not waste peoples time. Unbelievable. Do not waste your time coming to this restaurant. The view is average anyways.

I messaged scenic view on Facebook to confirm that I could make a reservation for our party of five today. The general manager Jessica was great and even asked if we needed a highchair for our little one. Our friends and I enjoyed a beautiful 65° morning overlooking lake Monroe. The service was on point and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back again soon. Thanks for a great morning!

Excellent brunch with fabulous coffee, unique and delicious specialty cocktails & amazing made to order food. They easily accommodated our large group and everyone’s food preferences. We were all pretty disappointed in the food. Lacked flavor/seasoning. I had the breaded tenderloin sandwich, it was tempura batter so I should’ve known not to order but…it was dry and not seasoned at all. Fries were good.
Other 3 in the party ordered hamburgers and had the same feedback. Fries were good but burgers lacked flavor.

Another fun experience today with friends at “The View”! Beautiful fall day with view of Lake Monroe and the colorful leaves. As always, the food was excellent and servers were great! Many delicious choices to choose from with either brunch or lunch items, always with an interesting twist giving it that little something extra! Love the vibe and definitely one of my favs!
