We started with the chips, guac and salsa which didn’t disappoint. My sister ordered a daily special margarita (the hibiscus margarita) and said it was very good and fresh. I believe the margarita was priced around $12 which was reasonable.
We each ordered 2 a la carte tacos which tasted decent, however, the little street tacos are $8 each which is overpriced. You’re definitely paying for the restaurant atmosphere rather than the actual taco. The Al pastor taco was pretty good and the carne asada taco would have been better if the caramelized onions weren’t so overwhelming. I love caramelized onions so I do not have an aversion to them; the onion to meat ratio was just simply off. I also bit into some chunks of sugar – not sure if they topped the onions with sugar because I could see it right on the onions or if it didn’t dissolve completely when they cooked/reheated the onions for serving. We also tried a side of the borracha beans which weren’t bad, they had flavor and were pretty spicy. Not my fave but that’s probably just taste preference.
We finished with the churros which were absolutely delicious. I wouldn’t even mind if the churros came plain, or half plain half cinnamon/sugar because there’s plenty of added sweetness to be had from the chocolate sauce and dolce de leche.
I would return so that I could try other menu items that are not tacos. If I could spend $16 on two dinky street tacos I rather order a “larger” plate so that there’s more bang for the buck. I’d also like to try a margarita.
House special drinks made perfectly, Emma is the best bartender this side of the Mississippi!
Top notch establishment!
For me, the real test begins before the entrée — with the chips and salsa. If those don’t hit the table right after you sit down, alongside a glass of water, I start to worry. At Sayulita, you’ll have to order your chips and salsa, and at $9 for a “salsa flight,” the expectation is high. The four salsas we received were colorful and well-presented, but none packed that signature punch or heat that makes good salsa memorable.
Overall, the food was fine — flavorful, nicely plated, but not the kind of meal that leaves you craving another visit next week. If you’re drawn to fusion cuisine with a Mexican accent, this might be your kind of spot. But if you’re searching for authentic Mexican comfort food and a bottomless basket of warm chips, you might leave wishing you’d gone somewhere a bit more traditional.
Nicely newly decorated and very clean.
We heard this place just opened and decided to try it out.
The place seems to be well staffed and organized. The waiter Nate was very attentive.
We were greated with Michael Jackson music extremely loud and we asked for them to please turn down.
The appetizers we ordered came out relatively quick. They look super delicious until we tried them.
They absolutely had no taste. The salsas were bland. The mango sauce tasted alittle bitter like if it was going bad.
The other two sauces were completely tasteless.
We ordered the seviche and also was totally tasteless.
At that point we all decided we could not continue here. We asked for check and left.
You need to change your chef or something.
The presentation was nice but what’s the point.
Better luck next time I suppose.
