We were nervous about getting a table, but then the place was empty, with a couple of people at the bar and 1 other table.
What we got:
– Gnocco fritto
– Bruschetta
– Arancini
– Orecchiette
– Bolognese
– Sausage and lentils
– Chicken parm
– Skillet chicken
– Radicchio salad
We had high hopes, but besides the apps, everything was disappointing.
How can you call yourself an Italian restaurant but not cook pasta correctly? The pasta for the Orecchiette, Chicken Parm, and Bolognese were all VERY overcooked. The pasta for the Bolognese was basically mush. We actually sent that dish back and came back just as overcooked. They need to figure out how to cook pasta.
Service was also bad. Our apps and mains came out at different times. Water glasses went unfilled, and I had to go find salt and pepper on my own.
Also, there were two employees, maybe a manager and kitchen staff, who were sitting at a table next to us doing event planning while talking on the phone on speakerphone. It really ruined the vibe.
Slim chance we will go back. Very disappointing.
The food and brews here are decent but the ambiance is a bit lacking. It is an easy walk from Malibu beach and a good place to come in after a day in the sun.
It has bar seating, booths and tables.
I highly recommend the rosemary chips and the ice cream sandwiches! The fried cauliflower and calamari are average.
Also they have decent beers and cocktails on tap so if you just want a few drinks and some bar food this is a great option.
The food was fantastic. We ordered mussels and gnocco fritto. The gnocco fritto was amazing! They also happened to have pizza as a special and it was fantastic. My boyfriend is from NY so think he’s a pizza connoisseur, and he really liked it. The food was brought to us by their chef, who was awesome. He explained the gnocco fritto to us as I’d never heard of it before. We really enjoyed our brief conversation with him. He let us know they have game nights on Wednesday’s, so we’ll definitely be back.
