I have been to Saul’s more than 30 times over the years:) The matzo ball soup has never failed: perfect dill, tender chicken, and an irresistible aroma. Their brunch menu also offers a great variety of tasty dishes. Truly a gem in Berkeley.

Bringing a date to Saul’s for a first visit I had complete confidence in the dining experience, and I was more than satisfied. If anything they have dialed the service up. Fun and tasty, attentive but not intrusive. A bowl of their soup can be a meal but we got a cup each, plenty of room for the rich, tasty sandwiches after. Our pairings: matzo and a reuben on rye, lentil and roast beef royale (not pictured.) All good but reuben is the best. I have it with the top notch potato salad, and got the house made celery soda, amazing as in years past. We came late and they were out of a few desserts so instead of cheesecake we tried the chocolate layer cake. On a whim I added a pot of hot mint tea and it was the perfect finish to a perfect dinner. I would say “will return,” but we already did, for brunch the next day. (Try the Malawach, a flaky Yemeni flatbread!)

Large open space, clean, tidy and well-attended. Thursdays there may be a Farmer’s Market out fron at noon, or one (weather permitting). We happen to be here on one of those less amenable weather days.
One visit only, so no in-depth review here.
Great bagels.
Great Smoked Salmon.
Well worth visiting and getting to know this place.
Staff are friendly, helpful, and try to keep my.modifications from costing the moon and stars.
The pastry cases are hard to pass up. Rugelach and Hamentashen come in 4 flavors, maracoons 2.
I am not eating everything to report, but the one chocolate Rugelach was dreamy.

Lovely restaurant and amazing food. I had the half pastrami and matzo ball soup as well as some of the latkes! While I’m quite far away at ocean beach I look forward to next visit!

A flawless Berkeley staple. The food is consistently excellent, as is the service. The restaurant has so much character and a unique menu. It’s a vibrant park of the neighborhood and an anchor for north shattuck. The turkey sandwich, while relatively simple in its composition, is probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.

The pastrami sandwich is a must, absolutely delicious and mouthwatering! It was such a great experience, and we’ll definitely be back next time we visit Berkeley. The service was also excellent and super fast. Highly recommend!

Can’t believe this is my first time here! I wanna say this is the best affordable pan-Mediterranean food I’ve had in the bay. Huge menu for vegetarian options.
It was the week Diane Keaton passed away and they put her pictures on the bathroom door which was super sweet.

We visited Saul’s for the first time. It’s a busy eclectic diner that blasts you with nostalgia. Menu has a wide variety which I appreciate. There’s breakfast, lunch and dinner items.
We ordered the snitzel sandwich and the matzah ball soup. Snitzel was cooked perfectly, texture from the crispy bread and coleslaw complimented it well, soup was also delicious.
Service was attentive.
Bathrooms are a wee bit small.
Overall, great place to visit!

I love Saul’s and have been going regularly for over 30 years. There is nothing like a neighborhood diner and Saul’s has the best diner vibes whether you’re there for the breakfast bustle, outdoor sunny California lunch, or a cozy dinner.

Go for the pastrami ruben but also go for the vegetarian dishes. I think I’ve eaten everything on the menu.

It’s all good, especially the pickle plate.

Great breakfast options: sandwiches, bagels, pancakes and many egg options. Pretty much all good. Suggesting fish options too. Shaksuka is one of the best I had.
