This not your exceptional omakase experience. II was rather disappointed on many levels. The fish, not as fresh as it could’ve been, I could even smell fish as I walk in to the establishment. Not a good sign. The first three courses were very very disappointing. The fish was over cooked and dry! Why?! The nigiri was just ok. With only one course standing out- their final Uni course. Not worth the money or your time. I also ended up sick. So that should tell you something. I will say that they tried to placate me with a free drink and dessert, but that was not enough to cover the underwhelming experience.

I was honestly pretty disappointed. First of all, this isn’t a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant run by Japanese chefs, and while I understand that many chefs come from similar training backgrounds, the overall experience just didn’t stand out. The fish didn’t feel especially fresh, and there wasn’t much creativity or anything memorable about the dishes. It felt very similar to many other places, probably because they all come from the same school or style. I wouldn’t recommend this spot for serious sushi lovers or anyone who’s really into omakase. But if you’re just casually looking for an omakase dinner on a random day, it’s okay. I personally wouldn’t return.

Our experience at Sato Omakase was truly exceptional, from the exquisite food and thoughtfully curated sake pairings to the impeccable service and engaging education provided by the chef. Having enjoyed numerous omakase experiences in the Bay Area and across the country, we were intrigued by this restaurant based on its glowing reviews, and it exceeded every expectation.

Each dish was a masterpiece, surprising and delighting us with its flavor, presentation, and artistry. The chef’s personal touch, sharing insights about the ingredients and preparation, added an intimate and educational layer to the evening. The staff’s meticulous attention to detail—whether in the perfectly timed service or the artful plating—enhanced the entire experience.

The ambiance of Sato Omakase was equally charming. The minimalist, harmonious design created a serene and sophisticated atmosphere that complemented the culinary artistry perfectly. It felt both refined and approachable, a delicate balance that elevated the dining experience.

This restaurant has firmly secured a spot on our list of must-visit omakase destinations in San Francisco. While the city offers countless dining options, Sato Omakase stands out as a top choice for anyone seeking world-class Japanese cuisine. We eagerly look forward to returning and reliving this unforgettable experience. Thank you for delivering excellence on every level!

The Omakase experience was wonderful overall, but I’ve rated the food four stars because I felt the selection of fish could have been more varied and creative. For instance, the two pieces of mackerel served almost back to back had a strong, overpowering fishy flavor and weren’t very different from each other, aside from one being seared.

The staff was friendly and attentive, and the chef was knowledgeable. However, his thick accent made it a bit difficult to fully understand him at times.

Definitely an amazing night of dining! Highly recommend coming to this place if you enjoy omakase meals. Firstly the service here is great. The staff were very courteous and detail oriented. Our jackets were taken care of when we sat down at the bar. And once our meal was done they held out our coats for us to slip into them.

The meal was $195 for about 14 to 15 courses. Each dish was flavorful and fresh. The use of ingredients were creative and had wonderful taste. And by the end of the meal we were full.

Fantastic Omakase expense with Chef Alex. The staff is fantastic and some of the dishes are truly unique. The Marinated Cod was one of the best I’ve ever had.

What an experience! This was my first time enjoying an omakase dinner and I am so lucky I experienced it here! The food was absolutely delicious and hit every palate. The staff was friendly and they even stayed after to celebrate my birthday with me! Highly recommend if you’re in the area, whether celebrating an occasion or needing a night out

Travelled to San Francisco for business and this place was recommended to me by an employee at the Palace Hotel. I went early for the 5pm seating and received unparalleled service. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The omakase menu had several unforgettable bites. For me, the toro, yellowtail, and the silver pomfret were the most delicious. I recommend you try Sato if you’re in town and like a diverse omakase menu in a nice atmosphere.

Uni, truffle, caviar, and other raw fish are of top quality. Chef combines them to create amazing tasting experiences for customers. I came for the omakase experience. Especially loved the nigiri and the black truffle uni w/ fatty tuna bowl. Price is around 300/person without wine pairing.
The atmosphere of the omakase section of the restaurant is quiet and elegant. Service is warm and professional. The reason for 4/5 is because a nigiri had a small piece of fishbone left inside. Everything is excellent otherwise.

Food, service, and overall experience on par with any Michelin starred restaurant in San Francisco.

The restaurant has two sections, one with an a la carte menu, and a separate room for omakase. The ambience is great, the staff are friendly and attentive. The food was top notch, including a few surprising (in a very good way) preparations. The sake and wine pairing was great too. In short, great experience and would not hesitate to recommend or come back.
