The value for the visit was very good. It would be close to double if we ordered the exact amount of food that night.
We had a reservation so it wasn’t a long wait. When we went in, the atmosphere was pretty good. No loud noise and we could hear each other talk without a problem.
If you go, I highly recommend the steak. The fish was ok, but the steak was the best. Nothing really to write home about except the steak.
It was a great place to try out but with so many options in the city, I’m not sure if we’ll come back.
And the food is always a highlight. Guests genuinely enjoy the experience, which naturally translates into relaxed, joyful moments on camera.
The Yorkville location is another big plus. You’re steps away from beautiful streets, classic architecture, and upscale city backdrops – perfect for quick portraits without leaving the area.
It’s a great choice for couples who want a refined, cozy celebration right in the heart of Toronto.
That said, the striploin steak was still good, some parts tasted slightly burnt from the grill, but overall it was still delicious. We were also given complimentary sparkling water (a San Pellegrino bottle), which was a nice touch.
The desserts were great, the pudding and cheesecake both tasted lovely. For appetizers, we really enjoyed the tuna shrimp ceviche and the cauliflower soup. Overall, a nice dining experience despite the ribeye issue.
Great service, amazing atmosphere but the food was just OK.
I ordered the ceviche shareable steak and a Pudding chomeur for dessert.
The ceviche was yummy! I loved that it came with Plantain and Taro chips! The steak was tender, however a little too charred for my liking that it made it taste a little on the salty side. The sauce that was there was bland so I’m not sure if it’s just there for plating or if it’s actually there to add to some kind of flavour. It was a bit disappointing.
The pudding was gross. Personally I didn’t expect it to be “poor man’s pudding” – I’m not very familiar with desserts with French in them.. the word “pudding” caught my eye. I think it would be helpful to put a description for people like me. Though I realized I should’ve maybe googled it first… it was extremely sweet. The waiter was kind enough to let me switch to the cheesecake and that was very tasty – it had a nice, light and creamy texture.
Would I come again? Maybe to try their brunch menu. I think it’s worth coming at least once for the atmosphere!
Highly recommended the Beef Tartare & the Tuna and shrimp ceviche! Super fresh and tasty.
We ordered the Village Burger, Salmon (sub the potatoes with asparagus) and the Ragu.
For the dessert, we got the lemon tart and the passionfruit coconut mango panna cotta and that was the winner.
Overall, amazing and efficient service. Seats were super comfy with the cushions. Moody atmosphere. Bathrooms could look better especially being in York ville. We will be back!
The salad pairing with quinoa was a pleasant but good surprise. The duck was cooked to perfection and delicious.
I had dinner with a friend this evening after a concert at Koerner Hall. She had been to Sassafraz before for brunch with her family and enjoyed it, so we decided to try it for dinner. The restaurant has an elegant ambiance, it’s clean, welcoming, and the staffs are very friendly. Derek understood our preferences perfectly and recommended both the wine and food, which turned out to be just right for us. We had the beef tartare to start and the New York strip steak with truffle fries — everything was delicious! Highly recommend.
