Our elopement dinner at Sassafrass was one of the most emotional and unforgettable parts of our entire wedding day. We’re from New Jersey, so we planned everything long-distance, and meeting with Kira beforehand to create a custom menu immediately put us at ease. She listened to us, cared about our vision, and crafted a meal that felt personal and meaningful — and every single dish was incredible.

When we arrived on the night of our elopement, the owners greeted us with such genuine warmth that we immediately felt cared for. Seeing how beautifully they arranged our décor brought me to tears. It was so clear how much love and intention they poured into making the space feel special for us.

By the end of the night, it truly felt like they had become family to us. Having a beautiful intimate dinner created just for us in a place filled with kindness and love was everything we hoped for and more.

We will carry this memory with us for the rest of our lives. Sassafrass isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a place where people create moments that stay with you forever. We are forever grateful, and we cannot recommend them enough.

My wife and I had breakfast at Sassafras Café, and it was easily the best meal we’ve had on MDI.

We ordered the sourdough rye waffles with Gray Jay maple syrup, salted butter, and Blue Barrens blueberries, plus a biscuit sandwich with bacon, tomato, greens, and a fried egg. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh and thoughtful without being fussy. The lattes were great too.

We met the owners and heard a bit about how they started the café and the history of the building—it’s a beautiful space and clearly cared for. Great food, great people, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’re actually coming back tonight for their jazz show and small plate dinner.

Tl/dr: We had our elopement dinner as a private event at Sassafrass – we were in AWE of the food, the atmosphere, the people, and every thoughtful detail. It was perfect. You can trust Kira like a best friend planning your most special events <3

My partner and I eloped in Acadia this summer with our immediate families. Our goal was simple: enjoy an intimate, love-filled weekend with each other and the people who matter most. After our ceremony, we hoped to end the day with a dinner that felt warm, personal, and special. Choosing the right place mattered so much to us, and Sassafrass was exactly that from the very first moment. They fit the vibe and atmosphere immediately.

From our initial Zoom with Kira, we knew we were in the right hands. She immediately listened and understood our vision and told us how she could bring it to life. Over the following months, she helped us craft a menu, plan decor, and brainstorm elements to make the night feel uniquely ours.

One of our favorite parts of the process was working on the menu. Sassafrass sources from local farms, and we loved choosing a general direction while trusting their team to select the freshest ingredients. Amanda (head chef) absolutely CRUSHED it!! The food was beyond what we imagined. Every dish oozed flavor and warmth. You can take a look at the final menu in one of the photos (for the entrée, you can see they had 3 options of arctic char, filet mignon, and tofu)!!

For the evening itself, we decided to set up a small tile-painting activity as a keepsake from the weekend. Kira transformed that idea into a beautiful painting station on the patio, alongside a bar and the most elevated charcuterie board I’ve ever seen – you can see my partner’s reaction in one of the photos 😛

When we arrived, we walked onto the patio and then into the dining room and were completely in awe. The space felt like our own cozy, candlelit lodge. Warm wood, soft lighting, gorgeous flowers, thoughtful decor. It felt like a private little world just for us.

Working with Kira genuinely felt like working with a friend. She cared about every detail, anticipated things before we did, and made the entire experience effortless and joyful. Sassafrass went above and beyond in every way.

We feel incredibly lucky that we found them, and we truly cannot recommend them enough!!

Visited twice during our week at Acadia. Delectable dishes, awesome coffee. Eclectic atmosphere but very small inside with limited seating. Probably the best latte I’ve ever had ☕️

Hours definitely suited our schedule, opens at 9. Check their website for hours.

Sassafrass Cafe is now one of my go to’s when visiting Acadia for SO MANY REASONS. Not only is it cozy, but every member of the staff is super friendly and the food and drinks are delicious. Every meal and drink I’ve had (and I’ve been several times during my weeks on MDI) has been top notch.

As a wedding photographer, it has also been such an honor to work with the team at Sassafrass for events. They care deeply about their clients experience and do whatever it takes to make sure that they have an amazing time. They also hosted a retreat that I put on for other photographers and I was blown away by the love they put into every dish and the decor for the event.

I highly recommend visiting Sassafrass whether it’s for a morning coffee, a delicious lunch, or hosting your intimate wedding gathering. I can’t wait to be back there next year!

One of the best coffee shops I have EVER been to. (I’ve lived in SF, NYC, and traveled to 40 countries – I’ve seen some shops.)

Their Espresso Magician is a decadent Mexican mocha that is alone worth the stop.

On top of it, every single one of the ladies here is delightful, the food is excellent, the ambiance is perfect, and there’s an apothecary of witchy tinctures and massage potions to take home.

The other reviews are about catering because the owner is a caterer who transitioned into a physical space. Now you can come experience this magical place without getting married!

I went to Sassafrass this morning on “accident”. I drove passed it, said “What is that precious place?” and turned around to come back. The stars were aligned for the best breakfast experience I have ever had. Everything about the menu, the food presentation & taste, and the atmosphere is curated so beautifully. I fear I may never eat again because nothing can top the breakfast I had this morning.

My only complaint is that I live six hours away and can’t be a regular.

The staff are simply wonderful: warm, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest has the best possible experience. The food itself was outstanding— we had the Kimchi Congee (wow!!), Latke Benedict, Magician Latte (omggg), Hibiscus Lemonade – made with love, attention to detail, and a clear passion for quality. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, both comforting and flavorful, and it was clear that the team takes great pride in what they put on the table.
