Mixed review- I’d be giving 5 stars had our food come out warm, which was disappointing. Servers response was “want me to nuke it?”… um- no- who eats nuked eggs?! She did take $3.50 off the $75 bill for the inconvenience- so there was some effort- I guess. Now- the food was damn good otherwise (would have been better warm!) we specifically went for the fried green tomatoes and HOT DAMN they were DELICIOUS – these were served hot along with our beignets- which were also AMAZING! These came out immediately before our food- it was 25-30 minutes for our breakfast to come after. Biscuits and gravy was good- go for the vegetarian green Chile gravy- trust me! Country breakfast was just ok- Potato casserole was delicious- even cold- but the bottom line is that eggs are NOT good cold. The food had the flavors- if I was the cook/ chef and knew food sat long enough to get cold- and the server offered for it to be “nuked” I’d be irate. Long review short – food would be great if you served it hot. Atmosphere was really great- cute/ quaint little place.

We went there for brunch this morning, and sat at the bar. The two female bartenders were amazing! Super attentive, and made great cocktails. I started with the sassafras Mary, and it was delicious. Lots of yummy accompaniments. My husband had an old fashioned, and it was so good , he had two. I had the wedge salad with grilled chicken. Yum! The vegetables were really fresh, and the dressing was yummy. My husband had a basic breakfast, and said it was delicious. Especially the biscuit and gravy. Highly recommend! A gem in Golden!

The food is absolutely unreal, the lattes came out with pretty nifty cinnamon art. The Bison Hash with Chicken fried eggs are my favorite. Absolutely among the best spots to eat in the Denver metro. Only downside for me was the Queen Mary Bloody Mary was not great, and the waitress did not ask why I hadn’t drank even 1/4 of it by check time.

There are not enough stars on the spectrum for this spot. I LOVE Sassafras. I love that it is owned by a couple and the wife is the Chef behind all of the insanely thoughtful and delicious items on the menu. I love that the servers are knowledgable about the menu in full and will let you know if you are ordering too much food; creating the possibility of the happiest food coma you’ll ever reach. Drinks are outstanding, Bloody Mary’s are highly recommended for while you’re waiting for a table because I’m sure you’ll be waiting! Which is not a bad thing at all, just another sign that this restaurant is crushing it. I currently live in Los Angeles, but anytime I am in Colorado I make it a point to come to sassafras. Hands down one of my top favorites; ever. Dang…now i’m just craving a Bison hash and a bloody mary…. Miss you Sassafras! Hope you’re still killing it out there!

We went here for breakfast all 3 days we were here. My wife loved the fried green tomato Benedict. The coffee was great. The service was great. We had the same waitress everyday and I’m really bad with names but I think her name was Katy. She was too notch. I think I liked the Cajun Benedict the best here. The bloody Mary’s were spicy, too spicy for some people maybe. I thought they were great though. I suggest going right when they open ( 7am M-F, 8 am on weekends) after that, about 9 am, it seemed to really start getting busy and because people will be people, loud.

This place is always delicious! The breakfast Mac and cheese was something different and unexpected!! The chicken pimento biscuit is always a winner. The flavor combinations are just so tasty together. The fried green tomato po’boy with remoulade and bacon was everything I hoped for! I’m sure we will be back soon! I really enjoy this place! UPDATE: We just keep coming back for more. The BBQ shrimp are amazing and the sauce is so good you’ll want to drink it. Keep it to our on everything! Especially the Mac and cheese.

We went to this place because of all the positive reviews and were not disappointed. Buffalo hash was awesome. Banana bread starter was decadent and delicious. Completely missed that it had chocolate chips in it when reading the menu so we were pleasantly surprised. Green chile gravy was by far my favorite part of the meal. The biscuit they serve with that might be that best biscuit I’ve ever had. And to top it all off they do mimosa and bloody mary flights!! Definitely stop by this place for brunch if you’re in town.

Great Southern breakfast and brunch spot. I had the fried chicken & pimento cheese biscuit. It was excellent. Next time I’d ask for triple the pickles because they were amazing. It would also be interesting to try with jalapeno cornbread instead of the biscuit. Portions were large.

Shrimp and grits were spot on. Had a nice flavor with a little heat. Shrimp was plentiful and cooked correctly. The grit cakes and sausage pieces were a wonderful complement to the dish. Ordered with an egg, over medium

I give Sassafras restaurant in Golden Colorado five stars. The decor on the inside was certainly quaint and had the feel of a homey Louisiana estate. The restaurant is located just near the river and has a lovely outdoor patio. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating and we received our lunch items quickly. We tried there lavender iced tea and their sassafras tea as well as many of their hot lunch menu items. We were able to quickly sit at a table of six people, and the manager was very friendly and welcoming. I like how they serve their drinks in mason jars, it’s a very quaint touch.
