December 2025 Japanese restaurant specializing in Omakase style cuisine. What makes them different is their mystery box style sushi collection which is much of an IG feast in itself.

Service is standard and very informative

The place is very clean and bright with a relaxed layout with good privacy spacing.

Ideal for small groups and casual dinning.

No in place toilet

Birthday lunch! Friend surprised me with lunch here. Omakase beautifully presented and you can really tell the chefs care about the quality of the fish. Each piece of nigiri felt thoughtfully prepared. All of it was perfectly seasoned and the fish was incredibly fresh.

Some standout bites for me were the uni and ikura spoon, Wagyu, and the lightly torched salmon nigiri. The flavors were clean, balanced, and melt-in-your-mouth good. We also had the yuzu tea and sakura drink which paired really nicely with the meal. The omakase pacing was good! Just enough time to enjoy each piece without feeling rushed.

The restaurant itself has a cozy, intimate sushi bar vibe and the service was attentive throughout the meal. It’s a great spot in Japantown for a date night or special occasion if you’re craving high-quality sushi in the city.

Total for two came out to about $370 with two omakases ($98 each), supplements ($35 each), drinks ($6.50 per tea), tax, and tip. Worth it to add the $35 supplement of the O-Toro w/ caviar, uni ikura spoon, A5 wagyu. worth it for the experience. Would happily come back again!

My wife and I stopped here for a light dinner relatively early on a Friday night. We were seated right away. The sake selection was excellent, and we got sake to share. For an appetizer, we shared the chicken karaage. It was tasty, and a large portion – it could have been dinner for one. After that, we shared a couple of orders of nigiri and a sushi roll. Everything was excellent. The service was good if a little rushed, but it’s to be expected anywhere at Japan Center. We had a good experience, and we would return.

Pretty solid location. We tried eating somewhere else first but the place just never opened. We thought it opened at 5 and then waited till six thirty. Never ended up eating there so we went to this place. I forgot how cool Japan town is. Definitely a great spot to hit if you are in town. Anyways this place was solid. I liked that they just hung sticks on their wall as decoration. The food was great. They had a diverse menu in terms of sushi items. Got a few rolls which were good. Nothing super spectacular but none the less a very solid place. Service was good. Atmosphere was great. I liked the set up and feel of the place except for the table we sat at. The chairs were set up somewhat difficult to get into the inside of the table. Not sure if that makes sense but it was still hard to get into the inside of the table. Overall great spot but I am bias towards sushi I think. It’s just too good you know. Also I’m planning on starting a cooking club at school so maybe I’ll do a sushi night if we get it approved. My Beli gave it a 8.7 which is pretty high to be honest. I think in terms of sushi spots it a little more than average, like a 7.2 but overall great spot.

Service is horrible, the waitress definitely needs to be trained. We booked reservation for 5:30 and wait until 6:45. We were told “Reservation does not guarantee your spot” Then what’s the point of making reservations? Waitress are super rude and no apologize at all, they basically feel like customers owe them money.

Sushi as art.

A welcome relief to order expert delivery on high-quality Japanese sushi/sashimi without having to go the omakase route.

Subdued elegance in its decor, a nice lunch or early dinner option when exploring the Japantown Mall.

Located on the 2nd floor of the East Mall (above the Daiso), the interior is just a little larger than it looks from the outside. I’ve always seen this place packed during the meal rush times on weekends and got a reservation for my visit on Saturday for a 6pm dinner, which worked out as a good idea in hindsight.

We were seated quickly due to our reservation. Service was incredibly spartan with the staff swinging by the table only for the essentials (what’s the order, bringing food with a quick intro of what the nigiri are, and dropping off the check). No questions on how’s the food, if we need anything else. I wish there was more on the service side, especially as our tea went cold, but understand they’re in the thick of the dinner rush.

Food was hit and miss. The soba-cha was just okay as the teapot arrived less than hot to begin with, and was cold far before we finished eating. We got the spicy salmon tataki too start which was great! Good flavor and fun as an appetizer. The unagi kabayaki was also good, with the eel flavorful, miso hot, and chawanmushi silky. It was plenty large for an entree. However, the 10 piece sushi tasting was a huge disappointment, as each piece was loaded with far too much wasabi. Big green blobs sandwiched been the fish and rice, resulting in the whole tasting having just an overwhelming flavor of wasabi in every piece. We were hopeful it was just the first few pieces, but the amount was consistently too much on all ten. Peeling apart the nigiri and scraping it off didn’t help the wasabi menace as it had permeated all the slices of fish by the time we decided to give it a shot. The fish looked visually great, but they all had far too much wasabi. We were successful with getting wasabi off one tuna piece, and the fish was alright flavor-wise once it was mostly wasabi free.

If I do go back, I would stick carefully to only some items on the menu, and the avoid nigiri/omakase. As there’s plenty of other fantastic spots in Japantown I’m okay with passing on Sasa.

Had a great dinner at Sasa with two friends! We ordered à la carte, including the sashimi set, steamed egg, dumplings, sushis and rolls—everything was fresh and well-prepared.

But the real MVP? The roasted Brussels sprouts. I wasn’t expecting much, but wow… game changer! Perfectly roasted with seaweed, dried shrimp, and sesame, giving it this incredible umami kick. I would return just for this dish—it’s that good!

Service was friendly but a bit too efficient. The waitress checked in three times before we were ready to order, and plates were cleared the second we finished. We got the bill immediately after eating, which felt a bit rushed.

That said, the food speaks for itself. Can’t wait to go back – especially for those Brussels sprouts!

The flavoring was good and the freshness of the fish evident. The portions of the fish were small in proportion to the price. We ordered a lot of fish dishes – 2 appetizers priced ~$20 (scallop crudo, hamachi truffle) and shared a regular 9 chirashi mystery box (which Yelp showed at $36 but it was $60) Unless you order the tokubetsu sushi combo or meal set I think you could be hungry. 2 of the 9 chirashi bowls were okay and not great. Hamachi sashimi slices were of less quality. The service was very friendly and efficient so 5 stars there. The atmosphere was also very nice with lots of wood, warm and minimalist vibe. It’s mostly about the value for money that led to the overall 4 stars.

The raw fish was fresh but the rice was a little hard and cold. Originally the guy didn’t want to seat us when there were over 16 seats available scattered over the restaurant. Online booking time was available almost an hour later. We asked to sit at the bar area and he made it seem like it was “hard to move things around” an hour later the same seats that were available an hour earlier were still available. I don’t understand how a host would rather lose clients than seat them. Things got better once we got our server. She was nice and attentive. The tofu was hot and had crab sauce on the bottom. The uni and ikura bowl was fresh but the rice was not hot or soft enough. Fried chicken was hot and had big pieces. The little got two avocado rolls.
