Reviews
Some days the food is so delicious, and the next day, it pisses me off.
Yesterday, I ate the February Special “Surf & Turf” ($25), and everything was good; I have absolutely no complaints.
So, I decided to come back today… and add a side of salmon.
The salmon was a bit dry, the skin was extra crunchy, and it lacked flavor (seasoning).
I understand seafood is not their specialty, so I’ll be gentle on the review.
The shrimp is decent, nice size, too.
Brussels are definitely “hit or miss.” One day, they’re super oily, the next day, they’re too hard, and sometimes, they are very seasoned and good.
Now the lamb….. Same as above 10/10 yesterday, 7/10 today.
Conclusion: You are rolling the dice by going there.
I’ve had everything from Chicken to Steak and Cheese, everything is “iffy” or “good”.
Clean establishment
Good Customer Service / friendly staff
Food is hard to rate the game
I received a discount!
Why do I support them? Because of their customer service, food availability, veggie options, and fast service!
Updating my review & being transparent.
I ordered the 3 meat combo/curbside. Chicken, lamb and Carne Asada.
No curbside instructions giving the option for staff to know we’ve arrived.
My sides were beans and carrots & Brussels mix-veggies were over cooked. The beans didn’t taste good to me. I received a large portion though.
This is a meal you have to eat on-site or be prepared to reheat when you get to your destination. All the meat was close to cold and the chicken looked to be somewhat raw still.
Expected better for a $26. Meal.
*October 2024 visit
-ordered chicken enchiladas, they were delicious!
-around $16
-Customer service was good too!
I was in DC for 3 days, and was spammed with requests to hit 2 restaurants – El Pollo Rico and Sardis. El Pollo Rico changed my life, so I had to get over to Sardis for a heat check.
I stepped out of my uber and had a great feeling as you could smell the beautiful aroma of the pollo a la brasa from outside. When I walked in there was a sign that read “Water cups are only for water, please, thank you!” and this is a great indicator that a spot is gonna SLAP.
I put my order in as locally sourced farm fresh grade A chickens rotated over charcoal in the background. I went with my life blood order of a half chicken, chaufa, and plantains which ran $16.60.
This chicken was amazing, but not quite El Pollo Rico level. I have it at the top of my A-tier, just below the mythical S-Tier that is reserved for some Hall of Fame tissi. But when you add the sauces in, it goes nuclear. Some good Peruvian green sauce, aka aji verde, will truly change your life.
The sides of chaufa, which is just peruvian fried rice, and plantains here were fantastic. Sweet plantains are also criminally underrated. The perfect compliment to some good bird.
I’ve been holding off on giving a number rating to restaurant chickens, just because I did so many before Chicken Wars took off. But moving forward, I’m going to start rating every one. It’s time. It’s what the people want.
