Heard so many great reviews and finally got to try it. The variety of dosas ( crepes) is definitely impressive! The food was not too salty the day we visited. The coffee while better than other coffee shops is pricier for the quantity. If you are near the area and would like to try South Indian Tamil cuisine , this is great. I don’t think I would travel miles to come back here. The service was ‘ here’s your food’. I don’t think one would go back for the service. But the restrooms were amazingly clean!!

Amazing food. I relished the idli and paper dosa with the sambar and coconut chutney. Onion chutney was not the same like you get in Tamilnadu. But, that’s ok. Their rava kesari was amazing. I also loved the coffee. Friendly staff.

We had checked the menu of the Stamford location online and seen Masala vada as one of their weekend evening appetizers. We were really looking forward to having the masala vada since it is not available in many restaurants. However, that and some other options that we had seen online were not on the menu card. On asking, we were informed that only the items mentioned in the menu card were available. Disappointed, we ordered the Mysore bonda, Onion utthapam, Milagaipodhi masala dosa and Madras filter coffee. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. There were 3 types of chutneys with the sambar secret with the dosas, of which the cilantro was the best. The coconut chutney was not entirely made of coconut (had lentils ground with it). There is a big paid parking lot behind the restaurant.

Visited on the way back to Hartford from JFK. There was no wait time around 2pm and we were seated right away. The food took more than 30mins to arrive at the table though. I’m assuming they were waiting for all items to be ready before serving. But other than that, the food tasted good. They maintain the Saravanaa Bhavan standards. 2 plantain bajji’ for $10 alone seems not worth but rest of the process were okay. Will visit again if I go past Stamford.

South Indian food doesn’t get more authentic than this!

Saravanaa Bhavan is a very popular South Indian food chain and it very well lives upto expectations. The dosas were very authentic and the coffee was exceptional.

Review of Saravanaa Bhavan in Stamford

Parking:
there is street parking available nearby, the restaurant also offers limited parking spots behind the building. However, the driveway is quite cramped, making it a tight squeeze for larger vehicles.

Experience:
We visited Saravanaa Bhavan as a group of ten on a busy Sunday evening. Despite the bustling atmosphere, we were immediately seated, which was impressive given the crowd. The restaurant was full, but they had sufficient staff to ensure that everyone was well taken care of, and service was prompt and attentive.

Food:
The food at Saravanaa Bhavan did not disappoint. We absolutely loved the pongal, which was one of the best we’ve had and truly lived up to the restaurant’s reputation. The idli, however, was a bit hard and could have been softer. On the other hand, the sambhar vada and rasa vada were outstanding, offering rich and authentic flavors. The dosas were excellent as well, crispy and perfectly cooked. To top off our meal, we enjoyed the filter coffee, which was exceptional and a perfect end to our dining experience.

Ambiance:
The ambiance at Saravanaa Bhavan brings a piece of Tamil Nadu to Stamford. For anyone from Tamil Nadu or those who appreciate South Indian cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. The authentic flavors and warm hospitality make it a standout spot.

Conclusion:
Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Saravanaa Bhavan. The only downside was the idli, which could use some improvement. We hope they continue to maintain their high standards and expand their presence in Connecticut, particularly in the Hartford area. Saravanaa Bhavan is a gem for lovers of South Indian cuisine, and we look forward to visiting again.

I have been to this locations probably a couple of times. I got thali to dine in and veg biriyani to go. The thali for lunch was great. The biriyani which was supposed to be my dinner has half rice cooked and half rice uncooked, totally didn’t expect from Saravana Bhavan. Also the quantity, the box isn’t even filled fully

I recently visited Saravanaa Bhavan and tried the chili onion rava dosa along with a filter coffee. As someone who hadn’t sampled South Indian cuisine before, I found the dosa to be a unique experience. It had a nice crunch and a flavorful kick, though it wasn’t quite what I expected.

The restaurant was relatively quiet, likely due to it being a weekday lunchtime, which provided a calm atmosphere. However, I felt that the customer service could have been more attentive. Overall, the food was decent, but a little more engagement from the staff would have enhanced the experience.

I’d recommend it for those looking to try something different, but perhaps visit during busier times for a more lively vibe.

Good food, great service!
We ordered the parotta, Chana bhatura, mirchi bhajji, idli wada and rasam wada,
Rasam wada was the best tasting item out of everything and so was the idli wada. Only wish they would dip the idli wada in sambar instead of a tiny quantity of sambar on the side.

Chilly bhajji could have been crispier but was tasty nonetheless, the rest of the curries were ok but the parotta was made well.

Overall, would highly recommend for some good South Indian food cravings, especially do try the rasam on a cold evening.

First time trying this Indian restaurant in Stamford. Recently opened, was very clean. Great staff and service. Ordered aloo tandoor paratha, Rava masala dosa, mini idlis and filter coffee ☕️.
Everything was delicious & vegan (except the coffee). High quality ingredients used, not so oily and spicy food. Which is very good for a indian restaurant. I enjoyed every bite of my parathas and the filter coffee was perfect to end the meal. Will definitely try in some other countries too, as they have many franchises around the world which is a plus point. Keep it up!
