Reviews
Saravanaa Bhavan is a very popular South Indian food chain and it very well lives upto expectations. The dosas were very authentic and the coffee was exceptional.
Parking:
there is street parking available nearby, the restaurant also offers limited parking spots behind the building. However, the driveway is quite cramped, making it a tight squeeze for larger vehicles.
Experience:
We visited Saravanaa Bhavan as a group of ten on a busy Sunday evening. Despite the bustling atmosphere, we were immediately seated, which was impressive given the crowd. The restaurant was full, but they had sufficient staff to ensure that everyone was well taken care of, and service was prompt and attentive.
Food:
The food at Saravanaa Bhavan did not disappoint. We absolutely loved the pongal, which was one of the best we’ve had and truly lived up to the restaurant’s reputation. The idli, however, was a bit hard and could have been softer. On the other hand, the sambhar vada and rasa vada were outstanding, offering rich and authentic flavors. The dosas were excellent as well, crispy and perfectly cooked. To top off our meal, we enjoyed the filter coffee, which was exceptional and a perfect end to our dining experience.
Ambiance:
The ambiance at Saravanaa Bhavan brings a piece of Tamil Nadu to Stamford. For anyone from Tamil Nadu or those who appreciate South Indian cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. The authentic flavors and warm hospitality make it a standout spot.
Conclusion:
Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Saravanaa Bhavan. The only downside was the idli, which could use some improvement. We hope they continue to maintain their high standards and expand their presence in Connecticut, particularly in the Hartford area. Saravanaa Bhavan is a gem for lovers of South Indian cuisine, and we look forward to visiting again.
The restaurant was relatively quiet, likely due to it being a weekday lunchtime, which provided a calm atmosphere. However, I felt that the customer service could have been more attentive. Overall, the food was decent, but a little more engagement from the staff would have enhanced the experience.
I’d recommend it for those looking to try something different, but perhaps visit during busier times for a more lively vibe.
We ordered the parotta, Chana bhatura, mirchi bhajji, idli wada and rasam wada,
Rasam wada was the best tasting item out of everything and so was the idli wada. Only wish they would dip the idli wada in sambar instead of a tiny quantity of sambar on the side.
Chilly bhajji could have been crispier but was tasty nonetheless, the rest of the curries were ok but the parotta was made well.
Overall, would highly recommend for some good South Indian food cravings, especially do try the rasam on a cold evening.
Everything was delicious & vegan (except the coffee). High quality ingredients used, not so oily and spicy food. Which is very good for a indian restaurant. I enjoyed every bite of my parathas and the filter coffee was perfect to end the meal. Will definitely try in some other countries too, as they have many franchises around the world which is a plus point. Keep it up!
