A classic Mom & Pop restaurant, filled with families. Mom started it and now the son and grandson run it. Service was fantastic, with the owner visiting us many times. He has a great sense of humor and was fun to joke around with. He was super flexible with our order. The food was perfect and portions were great. This would be our new favorite place if it was close to our home.

Went for date night last night and had a wonderful experience. The staff was overwhelmed but very friendly and the food was tasty. The portion sizes are shockingly small however. My boyfriend ordered the salmon from the specials and it was no more than 3 or 4 ounces for $25. The “jumbo” shrimp were not very large either.

We were a very big party that they may have been not ready for. The servers were in the weeds the entire time and took forever to order. HOWEVER, when we finally ordered and received our food, it was deeeelish. Potato skins were very good. The steak was cooked perfectly. The NY style cheesecake was very yummy. My wife loved the Brownie Sundae so much, I don’t think I saw any of it. The wait staff, who I felt bad for, tried really hard and was very polite so I had no issues there. My nephew had the burger and wasn’t a big fan of it. I tried it and neither was I. He did like my steak though. The waitress told me that just about everything is made on site and u can tell. I would recommend this place though as the positives far out weighed the negatives.

I recently had dinner there on July 29. In no particular order. Our server never introduced herself. That’s really important because I don’t think anybody wants to be called. “Excuse me ?” We had to ask what the specials were as our server never offer them! The shrimp cocktail was supposed to be the best in New Jersey! The shrimp cocktail came, and the shrimp were not even medium in size they were small. And I expected the presentation to be a little bit better than the shrimp, laying on top of some iceberg lettuce leaves on a bread plate. Overall the dinners were good in terms of taste, disappointed in the size of the meal portions are not generous by any means. I ordered the shrimp scampi. It was very tasty, however, we all know how inexpensive pasta is yet you could see most of the plate when it was served I was a bit disappointed in that they do not serve any bread with the meal you do get a choice of soup or salad. I would recommend the soup over the salad. The salad is just iceberg. Lettuce again served on a bread plate. Dressing is served in a plastic cup on the side. The prices are average to on the high side, in my opinion, which is disappointing based upon the portion. We did not order dessert. Not sure if I would ever really go back unless it was for a burger!

Comfortable atmosphere, attentive waitstaff, great food, excellent pricing, even the bartender Cindy came out to the dining room to suggest after dinner drink options. Definitely a keeper, enjoyed the experience, will return soon.

We have been wanting to come here since we lived in the area always drove by wasn’t sure if it was open then found out it opens at 4 o’clock PM. We came in for Christmas Eve Dinner since it was a nice quiet night, I must say definitely as their slogan says Somerville’s best kept secret. The Caesar salad was amazing the French onion soup not salty at all our steak and shrimp and chicken marsala will cook perfectly no room for dessert portions definitely generous. We had Marianna helping us out here on Christmas Eve with a great smile and making everybody around feel good and was told lots of locals come here and I could see why it is there kept secret.

I have had great experiences here at Sarah Janes since we’ve discovered it a few months ago. Always a good meal at a reasonable price. I like their seafood selections and their filet. My go to is the Stuffed Shrimp. Also great tasting burgers but the French fries are just ok. It’s become a weekly routine. Great friendly bartenders and wait staff.

I’ve heard good things about this place, and after my not so good experience the first time, I think it would be wrong not to try a different meal next time. I ordered the shrimp scampi to go, and they asked what side I wanted and soup. So I ordered a broccoli side and whatever soup of the day was. So I get home, and it’s just shrimp and broccoli in one container with no pasta! Shrimp scampi dinner is supposed to come with pasta!? It’s a specific meal. When they asked what side, I thought it was an addition to the shrimp scampi meal. Guess not! Well, I paid like $23 for shrimp, broccoli, small soup, and a piece of bread. I was not happy. I did have plenty of shrimp, and it was cooked correctly. Although it was lathered in spices that did not taste how scampi is supposed to taste like.

Got the stuffed flounder and shrimp. The shrimp was good the flounder was not very good. They use artificial crab in the flounder and seem like there is bread filler. A lot of filler. Did not taste the flounder. Got a rive side, just plain white rice. Was a little disappointed in the whole meal.
