Social Profile:

Hollywood’s Original Thai Joint emerges in a Motel in the 1970’s. Sapp Coffee Shop was a humble little joint as one of the first known shops in shops embracing alternative culture and the LGBTQ community. Our commitment to accepting ALL has been a major part of our longevity in Hollywood and to this day we stay true to our roots. This little Thai joint got its debut in a gritty, classic Hollywood Motel as a Coffee Shop by day and a Thai food joint by night. The owner of the Motel agreed to rent the small diner to Sapp as long as they served a classic American breakfast to tourists and a cup of American coffee. Sapp quickly became an institution in Hollywood for serving authentic Thai dishes as well as good old-fashioned breakfast.

Foodies flock to this bare-bones spot for beef “boat noodle soup” & traditional Thai comfort eats.

Food was decent. Drunken noodle was pretty good. Good level of spice. Disappointed in boat noodle since it was my favorite and the dish that I ordered. The broth was flavorful but it wasn’t like traditional broth. It tasted more like they used pho broth as a base or pressure cooked the broth with the meat. It was quite oily. Thai iced coffee was really good. Strong bold flavor just like how it made in Thailand. Lemongrass drink was way too sweet for me.
Didn’t appreciate our waitress who stopped our mid conversation asked us to pay for the bill immediately and asked us to pay tips in cash without asking how was our meal once or whether we finished with our meal which we werent. Asked for receipt never gotten one had to ask another waitress. Heard her mentioning to her worker that she didn’t want to give us a receipt, like why?

This place is a Thai Town institution. My parents have been coming here since they immigrated to the US in the 80s. Nowadays most Thais of that generation have moved off to the SGV or San Fernando suburbs. Coming here is like going back to the Thai town of the 90s, complete with photos of King Rama IX. It looks like it’s under new-ish management.

They’re known for their boat noodles. I recently went and was impressed that it’s still delicious. The broth is savory, deep and perfectly seasoned, without using sugar or MSG to cut corners. Also they give fried pork cracklings to add a nice crunch and richness.

The braised beef is fall-apart and really flavorful as well. Probably the best bowl of Thai boat noodles that you can get in this part of the world. Parking may be difficult as it’s a small lot and street parking is a pain.

Such a tasty spot! The pad thai and the soft shelled crab was delicious. The drunken noodles wasn’t my favorite though.
Their delivery is also great. Food tastes great there and at home

We’d been here years ago. Came in today.

We started with Pad Thai and it was probably the best in LA! So good.

Next we had the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles). These were good and the slight spice (we ordered mild) was enough to light up our mouth. That and the basil were so flavorful.

My wife ordered her favorite, the Pad Soon Sen. That and the Morning Glory were very tasty.

Overall, great food, friendly staff and a comfortable setting made this an enjoyable meal.

Real Flavors from Thailand! My Isaan heart was bursting eating lunch here. Our meal tasted like the food I eat when I visit my family in Thailand.

The service was very friendly and quick. Portions were just right.

This is one of my must eats when I visit LA.

Came here for the famous boat noodle soup that everyone had raved about, and I was not disappointed! Full of complex flavors, appropriately sweet, salty, sour and spicy (my favorite 4S), this boat noodle got it all. The service was quick and friendly, and the place is modern and airy. Can’t wait to try the other dishes 🙂

We enjoyed the following dishes:

Tamarind & Garlic Wings
Wings were meaty and the tamarind sauce adds even more flavor!

Kra Pao Fried Rice
Simple yet satisfying, the basil seals the deal

Boat Noodle Everything
Flavorful broth and generous with the meats/animal parts

Jade Noodles
Dry noods are my fave, these are yummy spinach noodles with lots of toppings

Mango Sticky Rice
Classic and most favorite Thai dessert, mango was so sweet, and ask for crushed peanuts to sprinkle on!

Loved the boat noodles here. It seemed to be just as good as the ones in Thailand, especially the mixed bowl. The steak piece in the mixed bowl is especially tender. Wish the crispy pork skin was refried, it seemed a little stale.

The fried soft shell crab was also wonderful, one of the best ones that we’ve had. Lightly battered and very airy. The stir fried morning glory was also great.

Service was friendly. The atmosphere was lively.
