The staff is excellent, especially Carla and Matthew!
Santoro’s has deep roots in Roslindale Square, originally founded by Vincenzo and Agostina Santoro and beloved for decades for their Sicilian pizza, fresh-baked scali bread, and classic Italian pastries. Today, their daughter Tina Santoro Asmar carries that legacy forward with pride–and has taken it to another level. The care, tradition, and family ownership are felt the moment you walk in.
The sandwiches are simply unmatched. Hands down, the best Italian deli sandwiches I’ve ever had–better than anything I’ve eaten in Philadelphia, New York City, or Boston (all places I’ve lived). Everything starts with bread baked fresh daily and top-quality ingredients. Our favorites are:
The Agostina Sr. – Boar’s Head provolone, sweet & spicy capicola, Genoa salami, mortadella, prosciutto, sun-dried tomato spread, roasted red peppers, onion, tomato, fresh basil, and olive oil
The Grayson – Oven Gold turkey, cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing, romaine, and mayo
You can taste the pride and attention to detail in every bite.
Catering is where Santoro’s truly shines and we always call the day beforehand. We regularly order trays for our own family and for friends returning home from the hospital, and the feedback is always the same–everyone raves. Standout catering dishes include: Chicken Parmigiana, Stuffed shells & stuffed manicotti, Lasagna, Ziti with meatballs, Chicken, broccoli & ziti, Eggplant Parmigiana (a favorite with our vegetarian friends), and Caesar salad
We always order extra meatballs and extra Nona Carmela’s marinara–and it never goes to waste. The garlic bread is also a must: fresh scali bread loaded with garlic, butter, Parmesan, mozzarella, and baked until perfectly bubbly.
The desserts are excellent (especially the cannoli), and they thoughtfully package them separately from hot food–small touches that show how much they care.
Add in super friendly staff, fair prices, and consistently fresh ingredients, and Santoro’s becomes the kind of place you rely on again and again–for everyday meals, family gatherings, and moments when food really matters.
A true family-owned Italian gem with incredible sandwiches and catering you can trust. Highly recommended.
First off they really should do more with the inside. It’s a simple hole in the wall place that could be so cool. A wall of Italian groceries? Couple of tables.
Second the price for EVERY sandwich is 11 something. Kinda pricey for most. Although they do have warm bread for the rolls. But they are baguettes so they are a bit small for a sub.
And lastly I ordered a sandwich that had roasted peppers listed. I saw the guy get a can of peppers from the shelf but somehow they never made it to my sandwich. It’s not like I added them. They were part of the ingredients and I didn’t get them. So I went with a 3. Could have been lower but in fairness the taste wasn’t too bad.
we have tried several others and all have been fresh. The desserts are yummy!!
Positives:
The fresh baked bread made all the difference in the sandwich. I ordered a sub with prosciutto, motz, tomato, basil, and olive oil. It was a really good sub.
The cannoli was exceptional. Crisp shells, smooth filling, and a hint of almond extract. Yum.
Needs improvement:
Sicilian pizza was average and not too tasty. Would not order again. They were out of Whoopi pies and that was a main reason to drive 20 minutes.
Made with…… Provolone, Sweet and Spicy Capicola, Genoa Salami, Mortadella, and Prosciutto, on a bed of crisp romaine lettuce and sun dried tomato spread, topped with roasted red peppers, onion, tomato, fresh basil, & extra virgin olive oil. Hot peppers available if you ask!!!!
